Clinton News Record, 2015-12-23, Page 1414 News Record • Wednesday, December 23, 2015 Huron Hurricanes Win in Port Elgin! Kristy Lyon Head Coach The Huron Hurricanes Aquatic Club members have travelled up to Port Elgin twice in the month of November for some fast swimming. Congratulations on an amazing Swim Meet win at the Port Elgin Opti- mist Meet. The Hurricanes won the meet with the most points above the three other clubs in attendance, Port Elgin Breakers, Owen Sound Aquatic Club and Oran- geville Otters. We also had three swimmers earn high point awards: in the 12 year old girls category, Maddis- son Hawrlyuk; in the 13 year old girls category, Natalie Van Nie; in the 10 year old boys category, Walker Teal. The Hurricanes had many swimmers with personal best times over the two com- petitions including Emma Nethery and Makenna Wormington on out first trip north. Jeffery Boersma, Cobie Mcllhargey, Emma Nethery, Sumiko Noda, Kameron Reay, Ben Russel, Hugo Russel, Walker Teal, Anna Trick, Ward Verchaeve, and Makenna Wormington also had 100% personal best times on our second trip up to Port Elgin at the end of the month. Congratulations to some of our younger Hurricanes who tried out a competitive swim meet for the first time: Caity Cox (10), Anna Hey- wood (11), and her sister Paige Heywood (7), Carter Ivatts (10). Special mention to Natalie VanNiejenhuis on her attempts at qualifying for Pro- vincial Championships and narrowly missing her qualify- ing time by 0.17 seconds. She has worked hard to get there and will continue to work hard towards Long Course Age Group Provincial Cham- pionships and Age Group National Championships in July. Congratulations go out to Walker Teal who joins Mad- disson Hawrlyuk in qualifying to attend Swim Ontario Pro- vincial Festival in February. Overall an amazing month of racing against our friends from Huronia Region in the north. We are looking forward to travelling to Guelph in December. Way to go Hurri- canes, you never cease to amaze and surprise me! Go Hurricanes Go!
