Don't Wind
Up in the
Drink
Going for a swim when your
heads already swimming is
an open invitation to trouble.
Water sports and alcohol just
don't mix. So before you dive
in, be sure you haven't been
in the drink. The message is
quite simple — leave the
alcohol behind.

'Twas the night before
Christmas, when all through
the school
Not a student was around,
they aren't a fool!
The lost and found was
hung by the office with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas
or a parent, soon would be
there;
The students and staff were
nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of holiday
fun danced in their heads;
And Mrs. Dolmage in her
Christmas sweater, and I in
my cap,
Had just settled down for a
long winter's nap.
When out in front of the
school there arose such a
clatter,
I sprang from the office to
see what was the matter.
Away to the front door I
flew like aflash,
Unset the alarm and threw
up the sash.
When, what to my won-
dering bifocals should
appear,
But a miniature school bus
and eight tiny reindeer,
With a wise old driver, so
popular and fun,
I knew in a moment it
must be bus one. More rapid
than eagles her coursers they
came,
And she whistled, and
shouted, and called them by
name; "Now, Dasher! now,
Dancer!
Now, Prancer and Vixen!
On Comet! On Cupid! on,
Donder and Blitzen!
To the end of the route, to
the homes of them all,
Lights on, stop sign out,
Dash away all!"
So up to the school roof
Nelly's bus flew,
With a sleigh full of iPads,
and St. Nicholas too.
And then, in the time of a
recess, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing
of each little hoof.
As I packed up my school
bag and was turning
around,
Down the hallway Mr.
N
Holland came with a
bound.
He was dressed in his
splash pants, from his head
to his foot,
And unfortunately they
were all tarnished with mud
from yard duty in addition
to soot;
A bundle of snacks he had
flung on his back,
And he looked like Mrs.
Kager preparing Monday
snack.
His eyes — how friendly!
his cheeks how
merry! His knees felt like
he had fallen in roses after
doing Kindergarten gym,
his nose like
a cherry! His eyes were
twinkling with mischief
And the students all
know; that means he is
likely to have a prank on the
go.
He had a partner with a
little round belly,
That shook, when he
laughed like a bowl of jelly.
It was St. Nick in his new
ews
school hoodie, a right jolly
old elf,
And I laughed when I saw
him , in spite of myself;
A testing call on the
walkie and a twist of his
head,
Soon gave me to know I
had nothing to dread;
He WALKED through the
halls, but went straight to
his work,
And filled all the back-
packs; then turned with a
jerk,
He remembered the staff -
room
room must have fresh bot-
tled water,
He gave me a wave and
the empty school a holler.
He sprang to the bus,
Nelly gave the team a
whistle,
And away they all flew
like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him send hol-
iday wishes, ere he drove
out of sight,
"Happy Christmas Huron
Centennial, snow days are
in sight!"
