A new cell tower was erected in the rear
parking lot of the Clinton branch of the
Huron County Library on December 11.
The tower will expand coverage and
increase capacity for Bell cellular users in
and around Clinton.
John Kirkwood of Phoenix Broadcast
& Wireless explained that their com-
pany in Harriston was contracted by
Bell to install the tower. Kirkwood
described the addition of the tower as,
"much like widening a highway': The
tower will provide a broader band
width to accommodate more and faster
signal traffic, which means each call
can be connected faster and more local
users can be actively on the system at
one time. Only those who have Bell cel-
lular service will benefit from this
tower.
The tower is a 30 metre high
shrouded tri -pole. This means that it
has tree even legs, rather than tapered
ones. The antennae and equipment are
behind the shrouds, which are protec-
tive coverings installed on the tower on
all three sides. The shroud panels have
been decorated with the logo for Cen-
tral Huron.
The concrete foundation was poured
in the parking lot on a Saturday in
November. This appeared to work out
well as far as not being a major inconven-
ience to library patrons. For this reason,
Phoenix Broadcast & Wireless decided to,
again, perform their work at the end of a
week and brought a crew of six, instead of
the usual three, to erect the tower as
quickly as possible, having it completed
all on the same day to minimize the
inconvenience to patrons.
