In 2005 while working as a Dialysis Technician in London, she enrolled in the first Practical Nursing program offered in Seaforth through Georgian Col- lege. Thompson sites Program Manager of HealthKick, Laura Overholt along with Barb Car- rier who was the Georgian Col- lege liaison at that time, as key to her obtaining a higher edu- cation rurally, stating both family and financial obligations would have made it impossible for her to attend school full-time. After graduation in 2009 as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN), Thompson continued her education through Cen- tennial College and Ryerson University, which held classes in Perth County, located at Stratford General Hospital. Thompson reports having the Registered Nurse (RN) and Bachelor of Science in nursing degree (BScN) program in Stratford allowed her to main- tain employment, while attending night classes. Overall, Thompson, now with RPN, RN, BScN behind her name, believes advancing one's education is rewarding, and looks for the positives in every opportunity and chal- lenge along the way. Thomp- son has accepted a teaching position with Georgian Col- lege instructing in the Practi- cal Nursing program held locally in Seaforth. HealthKick (a rural health- care human resources project in Huron County) and its part- nership with Georgian Col- lege established the Practical Nursing Program in 2005 in Seaforth. Tanya was among the students in that very first class. "We are pleased to have helped to make Tanya's dreams come true:' says Laura Overholt, HealthKick Project Manager.
