With only about a month to go
until the International Plowing
Match, local plowmen converged to
the Port Albert -area for the regional
event.
The Huron County Plowing
Match, in its 88th year, took place
Aug. 20 and Aug. 21 at the farm of
The Hayden family in
Ashfield-Colbome-Wawanosh.
In addition to the plowing compe-
titions, the event also featured the
crowing of the Queen of the Furrow,
as well as a banquet to end the festivi-
ties on Friday night.
North Huron Reeve Neil Vincent,
president of the Huron County Plow-
men's Association, said itis one of the
county's longest -standing traditions.
"A lot of families have been
involved with it over the years," Vin-
cent said, noting his daughter was
Queen of the Furrow in 2008, which
led his family to become involved
with the Plowmen's Association.
The Junior Day on Aug. 20 featured
the Princess contest and Huron
County 4-H Club Sodbusters
competitions.
Vincent said the Princess contest,
which is now in its 10th year, has been
very successful.
Building on that success, the first
Princess contest on the provincial
level will be held at the 2017 IPM in
Walton.
The match remains highly compet-
itive, however, Vincent said most par-
ticipants are friends.
"If somebody has something that
isn't working they can borrow it from
someone else," Vincent said. "It's a
great way of meeting new people"
Vincent praised The Hayden family
for allowing the association to use

The live harness season at Clinton
Raceway is winding down, with only two
weeks of live race cards remaining, now
is the time to spend a Sunday afternoon
at the fan -favourite Huron County oval.
This Sunday was all about the kids, both
on, and off track. Kids enjoyed rides and
fun in the park, the chance to drive a race
horse between the races with the Wanna
Drive team and many kids will see the
benefits of the money that was raised
for the Sunshine Foundation. Through
the BBQ, bake sale, 50/50 and general
donations, the foundation was able to
raise just shy of $2000.00
All fans were treated to free photo's and
autographs with former MLB Toronto
Blue Jay Jesse Barfield. Barfield was
scheduled to appear in July, but had a
scheduling conflict and rebooked for this
Sunday. Barfield even joined in a race
presentation for race seven winner E.L.
Spartacus.

this Sunday August 30 at 1:30pm. This
week Clinton Raceway will feature an
all memorial race card. Each race has
been sponsored in memory of a loved
