The storm brings grief to Huron County
CONTINUED FROM PAGE 13
Another local man,
James Glenn, was the
nephew of Reverend Wylie
of Clinton.
According to the Clinton
New Era, the 28 -year-old
Glenn had come to Huron
County from Scotland in
May. It was to be his last trip
on board the Wexford before

"going home with the inten-
tion of returning with his fam-
ily in the spring." Glenn's
funeral was held at Ball and
Atkinson's funeral rooms in
Clinton.
It is not known exactly
what caused the Wexford to
founder. Did she roll beam
over end in a giant tidal wave
as one Lake Captain specu-
lated at the inquest? Did her
cargo hatches give way
flooding her holds and stop-
ping the engines causing her
to drift powerless until she
was swamped by danger-
ously high waves? Did her
replaced hull plates begin to
leak again? Or, as Carroll
suggests, did tons of ice
build up on her super struc-
ture make her top heavy and
unmanageable? Nothing
can be stated with certainty.
As the extent of the trag-
edy washed up on Lake
Huron's shores, the New
Era did not exaggerate
when it claimed that
"Goderich is stirred as
never before in its history.
The town that provides so
many sailors for the Great
Lakes is a house of
mourning."

U1 1 Strikers take the championship
The U11 boys Clinton
Strikers won the year cham-
pionship two weeks ago in
Bayfield.
The team won a spot into
the final four after three
playoff games the past few
weeks. The semi-final game
against Bayfield came down
to a late goal in regulation
play with Clinton coming
out with a 4-3 victory.
This put them against top
seeded Lucknow for the
final. The Clinton team
came from a 2-0 deficit to
tie the score in regulation
play. During the 15 minute
overtime Clinton overpow-
ered the Lucknow team to
take the championship by a
score of 4-2.
