AED within reach of downtown core Lawn bowling results

A life-saving device is now
within reach of the Clinton
downtown core.
On August 10 the Investors
Group acquired an auto-
mated external defibrillator.
AEDs are electronic devices
used to restart a person's heart
if it has stopped beating.
The Investors Group head
office took on the initiative of
getting the AEDs in its mer-
chant offices. It stemmed from
employees who have had car-
diac arrests, said regional man-
ager, Mark Stekar.
AEDs work by analyzing
the person's heart rhythm,
determines whether a shock
is needed and uses prompt
to guide the rescuer through
the process, according to
Health Canada.

arrest each year. If a person
experiencing cardiac arrest
has early access to CPR and
defibrillation it could increase
the change of survival by 75
per cent or more, according to
the Heart and Stroke Founda-
tion of Canada.
Usually AEDs are
installed in arenas and
other public locations.
Jake Deruyter, an Investors
Group consultant in the Clin-
ton location, said they want to
have the AED available for
people because the response
time is important. The office is
located at 8 Huron Street, near
the corner of Huron and
Albert Street.
Right now the AED is avail-
able during office hours but
they may try to find a way to
have it available all the time.
Deruyter said there is poten-
tial to lend it to service groups
in the area for special events.
"It's a life-saving device and
that's what we want it to do,"
said Deruyter.
