echoes in
arena lobby

The municipality is doing something
about the echoing in the Central Huron
arena lobby.
Council voted to proceed with the
installation of acoustical tiles at the
August 4 meeting.
Central Huron facilities manager,
Steve Campbell, said there is a problem
in the lobby and the change rooms in
the arena.
"I think anyone who has been, it is a
serious problem. I honestly believe we
should try to do something with it," said
Campbell.
The acoustic baffle tiles will be
installed in the lobby first and then
council will consider the change rooms.
The tiles are designed to absorb sound,
unlike the cement which is there now.
When the arena was built the engi-
neers anticipated the echoing, so a wall
was put up to trap the noise. The win-
dows in the wall were small and so
council voted to have it taken down so
viewing would be easier.
To maintain the openness of the
lobby it was a better option to install
tiles as opposed to rebuilding a wall,
Campbell explained.
The tiles should be up in time for the
hockey season, around the end of
September.
