There are three different training sessions for boys U8 -U10, U12, U14 and one for girls from U12 to U16. The Huron FC is an indoor soccer club that had its beginnings last year when Annie Sparling, Club Manager, was looking for more opportunities for her son to play soccer during the winter. She kept hear- ing about a type of soccer called Futsal, which appealed to her because it could be played in a gym- nasium. Futsal is played with five players on each side, which means that it's easier to fill teams than the traditional game. The sport is internationally governed by FIFA which held its first World Cup in 1989. Futsal gained popularity in the professional soccer world because of the focus on ball control. The playing field is smaller and gives players more opportunities to prac- tice technique. Sparling wanted to create a Huron County team to play in the London futsal league. She approach Clinton resi- dent Poncho Melo to be head coach and the team was created. Sparling and Melo wanted to start spring training and so approached Bento Vieira, a former professional soccer player, to lead it. Vieira spent his childhood playing soccer in his native country of Brazil. His talent for the game was noticeable at the age of 12 when he was signed to one of Brazil's top soccer clubs. At 19 Vieira began his professional career playing in Brazil but quickly moved on to Europe before being badly injured in a car accident. After recover- ing from his injuries Vieira moved back to Brazil to play for different clubs. He never quite recovered from the car accident and so turned his focus to coaching instead. Vieira earned his coaching license and became deeply involved in coaching Brazil- ian youth. He decided to take his training and coach- ing passion all over the world and since 2009 has lived in Huron County. Huron FC is taking things outside for now and is still looking for players to join the spring training series.
