FRAUDSTERS STILL 'PHISHING'
FOR 'PHRIENDS' AND 'PHUNDS'
Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)
Anti -Rackets Branch remind everyone to be
aware of the many email scams criminals use
to commit identity theft and other crimes.
Phishing is any e-mail falsely claiming to be from
an established legitimate organization such as
a financial institution, business or government
agency. The e-mail may request or direct the con-
sumer to visit a certain website to update or pro-
vide personal and/or financial information and pass-
words. It is really a malicious attempt to collect
customer information for the purpose of commit-
ting fraud. This is also known as `brand spoofing.'
The Canadian Anti -Fraud Centre (CAFC; formerly
Phonebusters) reports phishing fraud scams con-
tinue to take a critical financial toll on Canadi-
ans. In 2014, the CAFC received 2,412 `phish-
ing' complaints. The 1,318 people who were iden-
tified as victims lost more than $245,600.
To recognize and avoid phishing:
Protect your computer with anti-virus software, spy -
ware filters, email filters and firewall programs.
Contact the financial institution imme-
diately and report your suspicions.
Do not reply to any email that requests
your personal information.
Look for misspelled words.
Always report phishing or `spoofed' emails.
If you suspect you or someone you know has
been a victim of fraud, contact your local police
service or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477
(TIPS) or online at https://www.tipsubmit.com/
or the official entity that it appears to be from.

HURON OPP DISTRACTED
DRIVING CAMPAIGN RESULTS
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has recently
wrapped up its province wide Distracted Driving
campaign which ran from March 14 to March 20,
2015. Huron County OPP saw a total of 58 drivers
charged with Distracted Driving during the campaign.
The number of charges laid during this cam-
paign increased in Huron County from a
total of 47 in 2014. The increase in charges
was also seen in several other OPP detach-
ments in the region and province wide.
This campaign received tremendous support
from the public, media and numerous road safety
partners who shared the messaging pertain-
ing to the dangers of distracted driving. As evi-
denced by the latest campaign results, there still
are a percentage of our drivers that choose to
take unnecessary risks by using their phone while
operating a vehicle. Not only did those 58 driv-
ers place themselves at a higher risk of a col-
lision they also placed every other user of the
roadway at an elevated risk of a collision.
Although the week- long Distracted Driving Cam-
paign has concluded in Huron County our local
officers will remain focused on their patrols for
those drivers that fail to leave the phone alone.

The governor of District A-9,
Hank Van Morsel, has found
financing for a full container of
used bikes for the project,"Bikes
for the World". So The Londes-
borough Lions have designated
April for bike collection. You can
contact any Lion member if you
have a bike to donate or call Ron
at 523-4378.
The group will be cooking up
their "Olde Tyme Breakfast" on
April 19th and invite you to drop
by the Londesbrough Commu-
nity Hall that morning and sam-
ple their cooking skills.
Tickets are available now for
their 6th annual Fish Fry on May
2nd. Advance tickets are pre-
ferred and you can get them
from any Lion member.
The Blyth festival Singers are
presenting their spring concert
on Aprill2th. The Blyth Com-
munity Hall is a fitting venue for
this concert which features
music of the Second World War
era. Tickets are available form
the Blyth Festival box office or
from any choir member.
I was disheartened to read in
last week's edition of The Citi-
zen that the congregation of
Duff's United Church in Wal-
ton is facing the closing of its
church. These church closures
are unfortunately a result in
changes in society and demo-
graphics. It is devastating for a
community to lose its school
or church. Those two institu-
tions have historically been
cornerstones from the past
into the future.
These decisions are not
made lightly, much soul
searching goes into the final
vote. Perhaps this is another
chance for me to remind the
congregants of Londesbor-
ough United to stay involved,
to support and to be part of
the decisions and future of
our small rural church.
There has been a change in
the date for Londesborough
United's official board meeting.
Take note, the new date for the
Unified Meeting is now April7th
beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The congregation of Londes-
borough United is invited to
attend the Good Friday Service
at Knox in Auburn on April 3rd.
The UCW Spring Fling will
be held at Brucefield Commu-
nity Church on April 14th
beginning at 4:00 p.m. The
theme for the evening is "I See
a New World': Think about car
pooling to attend this interest-
ing evening.
I felt the Minute for Mis-
sions included in the order of
service at Londesborough
United on Sunday, March
22nd was worth sharing.
Music is an integral part of
worship and a way to share
and express one's faith. Music
United is an association of
United Church musicians
from all over Canada dedi-
cated to the quality of the
music in our churches. Once
a year these musicians meet
to brainstorm new ideas for
enhancing the music experi-
ence in our communities.
Monies donated to the Mis-
sion and Service Fund of the
United Church in Canada ena-
ble music resources to be shared
with the wider church.
