Kirsten Harrett, owner of Deer Park Lodge and the Ash - wood, came under ownership of the Bayfield Inn property and establishment in a way that she describes as 'natural: "Since Deer Park is right across the way from the Bay- field Inn, many of our guests would overflow between the two," Harrett said. "So when the opportunity came up to pur- chase this property, it was just a natural thing for it to become an extension of Deer Park Lodge" The Ashwood Inn received its name naturally as well. Due to the invasion of the Emerald Ash Borer, the ash trees sur- rounding the Deer Park Lodge were on the decline. Instead of destroying the wood, Harrett said they decided to mill it into new fumishings and decor for the Ashwood Inn. Originally built in 1982, the building has seen many changes under Harrett's owner- ship, including renovations to the 22 guest suites, new floor- ing, new decor and a com- pletely redone bar and restau- rant called the Bourbon Bar. The Ashwood Bourbon Bar will be serving a selection of sophisticated cocktails, wines and spirits, including rare bour- bons for the connoisseur and connoisseurs -to -be. In addition to the Bourbon Bar and restaurant, the Ash - wood boasts a stage, state-of- the-art equipment and an excit- ing lineup of Canadian artists for this summer, thanks to the help of the Ashwood's general manager and in-house music director Peter Meades of Meades Bros Productions. "We will be home to well- known travelling and touring musicians and bands. We have an eclectic lineup of music this summer that transcends gen- res," Meades said. "We will be lucky enough to have a dining, lounge and live music venue all in one on various nights of the week' According to Meades, the overall vision for the Ashwood Inn is for it to be "a place where food, drink and music can all come together to create a unique experience for its patrons" He believes this, "combined with a phenomenal menu matched with both classic and creative cocktails is sure to give guests something new:' "We're aspiring to create a welcoming and relaxed atmos- phere for both guests and locals," Harrett said. "We want to infuse another element of fun into this community through music: The Ashwood Inn is situated on 19 -acres of trails along the coast of Lake Huron. In addi- tion to their pools, the Ashwood also has access to a private sec- tion of Bayfield's North Beach. "We will be open year-round and plan to partner with like- minded businesses in the area to promote Ontario's west coast as a four -seasons destination, Harrett said. "In winter, we'll have cross country skiing, snowshoeing and hopefully an outdoor skating rink on our very large front lawn': To encourage their guests to drink responsibly, the Ashwood will provide a complimentary shuttle service called the Ash - woody to pick people up and drive them home safely. The Ashwood Inn will officially open on May 30 and will feature the band Skydiggers on their opening night To keep up to date on the progress of the Ashwood, visitwww.faceboolccom/pages/ The Ashwood -Inn/ 1444270605863344.For more information on the Ashwood or to view the full music lineup, visit www.theashwoocl.com.
