some different fOrAla of recreational
activity, With That thought in. 'hind, the
Brussels Post ,set out to explore some of the
Conservation areas around Brussels,
'The areas owned by the Maitland Valley-
."ConaervatiOtt. Authority (MVCA) • around
here include the Brussels Conseryation
Area, the Ether Conservation Area, the ,
Sunshine Conservation Area in Morris f•
Township, the Pioneer Conservation Area
in Bluevale, the Maple Keys Sugar Bush in ,
Grey Township', the Morris Hill, Forest
"Tract in`Morris Township and the Pollard,
Ament Tract in Meals Township. -
The BrusselsConservation area is
classed as a day- use area and is used for
canoeing and limited fishing • and it has a
couple of picnic -tables. Possibly in pie
future a small , picnic shelter may : be
erected there by the •Authority. • •

Mr:, Grummett said the Authority' is
interested in. rehabilitating either the.

have to get some financing for it.

fishing and Canoeing Access there too, Mr.

The Sunshine Conservation area, 50, acres
in size, which is southwest of Brussels is
about the Same as t4 property in Ethel var
has a gravel ridge and from there the view
is quite scenic, Mr. Grummett said.

The area here is also good for a Waodlet
manageilagot program .to improve timber
production, wildlife habitat, eidenSive
recreation and education, through develop-
ment.
The,.Authority is hoping to develop two
ponds there for trout fishing and also plans
to make more trails for cross country
• skiing. .
The educational aspects of the property
whia make it good for geography studies
and stream studies are there now as well as
isting trail up to the ponds. The
principal attraction however,will be When
the ponds are stocked for the first time next -
"It's surprising the ntintber of people
who do use the smaller , areas," Mr.
Grummett said.

The Pioneer Conservation, Area in Blue -
vale has 33 acres and is strictlY a day it5e
area which . provides Opportunity for
picnics, swimming, angling, canoeing -and .
baseball. There is'a baseball diamond right
, within the area. Local people are the main .1
users.
In the future,' the. Authority, hopes to
provide additional parking, and implove-
merits to existing swimming facilities and it
also ".hopes to work along with the Ministry
of Natural 'Resources inrejuvenating a fish
resource there. A few , years ago, this
conservation area was . known as a bass
resort. .
The InaPie Syrup makirigoperaton is the
principal attraction of .the Maple Keys" -
'Sugar Bush near Ethel. Local' people also
use, this 104' acre area for cross country
skiing and snoWinobiling.• This sumirier the
