Members of the Varna and
Goshen communities joined
with the Nguyen family at
the township hall on Friday
evening for a potluck supper,
carol singing and crokinele
party. This enjoyable even-
ing was planned by the
refugee committee. Gordon
Hill , thanked everyone for
helping so willingly and
graciously whenever there
was a need for transportation
etc. The,Nguyen family also
exfireSSed their appreciation.
Rev. Wilena Brown took
the high prize for ladies in
the crokinele games, and
Mildred McAsh was low,
Men's high and low went to
Bill Taylor and Darryn Me -
Ash.
All of us who are involved
in any way with the Nguyen

chairman's duties. Recitat-
ions were -given by Jim Hill.

children's Christmas party.

narrator.
"What Does Santa Do?"
was the question posed and
answered by—boys of the
Junior class. Julie Webster.
Laura Roy. Doug Roy and
Robyn Norman performed a
skit "Santa's Cabin." Jean-
ette Keys was the little girl
looking for God so she could
give him some fresh muffins.

arrived during a loud chorus
of "Santa Claus is Coming to
Town" and distributed gifts

Hensall council voted to note and file a
letter from 'General Home Systems Ltd.
(formerly_Hendix). protesting an "excessive,
tax burden" on their property on Oxford
Street West.
The letter informed council taxes in-
creased by 73 per cent from one year to the
next, under the new Section 86 assessment.
Doug Gray, company controller, said in an
interview later that the tai increase seemed
like "an undue hardship" to the company's
operation. He said the company did appeal
the increased to the assessment appeal

- On a motion by John Skea, council voted
not to take„any action on the matter. Reeve
Paul Neilands said council had already paid
its annual levy to the county and to The

to be recovered front other sources if council
accepted the company's Appeal.
Council decided it was the company's own
negligence in not appealing the high
assessment which resulted in the problem.
Members agreed if • they reduced the
company's taxes, they would be setting a
precedent.
Controller Doug Gray said the compnay
wrote to council to appeal for some relief
from taxes which increased from S26,000
annually M $46,000 in a one-year period.
