Trustees Of the Huron
County Board of Education
believe their ritual of private
meetings before official
board sessions are neces-
sary.
In a special board meeting
last Monday, Director of
Education John Cochrane
asked trustees if they wanted
any changes made in the
committeee of the whole
term. Most trustees agreed
that the private sessions
were necessary when dis-
cussing personnel problems.
Mr. Cochrane prompted
the discussion by asking if
any changes were needed in
the board's approach to
private sessions. The min-
utes of the in -camera meet-
ing are included in the
fallowing months agenda and
all recommendations are
covered by a single motion.
Trustee Clarence McDon-
ald said the closed sessions
were not being abused and
were a necessary part of
board business.
"There are things discuss-
ed in committee and that's
where they belong," he said.
"We can't change that be-
cause we have to protect our
personnel."
Goderich trustee. Dave
Gower, said the closed ses-
sion should be conducted at
the conclusion of the regular
board meeting and the sub-
jects to be discussed in the
dosed session shmrld be
EDUCATION
"It is normal to state the
purpose of going into a
dosed session but here it's
done every month," he said.
"Only the trustees know
what the subject is and at
the end a blanket statement
(rivers all motions. It would
be more open to the public if
there was a list of what was
to be discussed."
Eugene Frayne said there
was no purpose to Gower's
suggestions and that all
dosed session motions were

On Wednesday afternoon
we had a large turnout of
both residents and staff as
well as some visitors to our
Pie Social. Special thanks to
Mary Lon Driscoll who was
responsible for the baking of
all those delicious pies. FA
Stiles provided the lovely
Christmas music that came
from the organ in the chapel
on Thursday afternoon.
Mass was held in the
chapel on Friday morning for
our Catholics.
We have been playing
bingo on ground north each
Friday and the location
seems popular with the resi-
dents.
We hope the residents
have been enjoying our new
stereo which we have playing
in various places throughout
the home.
