Dungannon Division Court,is of interest,'
Ashfield township easily won its case vs.
Archie Jobnstoit. Johnston took the
contract of gravelling 100 yards, but he
failed to do the work in the time fixed.
He was then notified that if ho did not
do it by a certain extended time the con.
tract would be re -let, and he would be
held liable for any extra cos;. Johnston
took the contract at 47 cents a yard, the
next lowest, ender being for 50c At the
reletting the lowest tender was 69e, and
Johnston was sued for the difference, $22.
His defence was that he did not consider
the contract binding, and that in the past
other contractors had been let cff, bat_
this was ruled out by the Judge as hay- „
ing no hearing on the case at all. �•

day, Nov. 27th. This was the golden
wedding or fiftieth anniversary of the
marriage of Mr. and • Mrs, Johnston.
Mrs, Jobnstou's maiden name was
Martha Shannon. She was a sister of
the late W. J. Shannon and of Mr.
Solomon Shannon, sr., of McKillop,
The worthy couple were married at Nor-
val, in the county of Peel, by Rev, Thos
Johnston, Presbyterian minister, on
November 27t1a, 1836. They came to
MoKiltop in 1860 and settled on a farm
on the 5th concession, where they con-
tinued to reside until about twelve years
ago when, desiring tie retire from the
more active duties of life, they came to
Seaforth.
