• Cobalt mining companies are being
fleeted by the dczen with capitalizations
of from half a million to two and a half
millions on the strength Of properties
bought from the previous owners—from
the men who knew most about them—
for one tenth the money. Of course the
previous owners very often lacked capi-
tal to work the claims. But, making alt
allowance for that, and all other con-
ceivable reasons for selling often and
early, the fent remains that in most
cases there is no good business basis for
the public paying par for the stook
Which is issued by the new companies,

In Praise of Chamberlain's Cough
Remedy.
There is no other medicine manufac-
tured that has received so much praise
and so many expressions of gratitude as
Chamberlain's Cough Remedy. It is
effective, and prompt re,ief follows its
use. Grateful parents everywhere do
not hesitate to testify to its merits fur
the benefit of others. It is a certain
cure for croup and will prevent the at-
tack if given at the first appearance of
the disease. it is especially adapted to
children as it is pleasant to take and con-
tains nothing injurious. Mr. E. A.
Humphreys, a well known resident and
clerk in the store of Mr, E. Lock, of
Alice, Cape Colony, South Africa, says:
"I have used Chamberlain's Cough
Remedy to ward off croup and colds in
my family. I found it to be very setts -
factory and it gives me pleasure to re-
commend it." For sale by all druggists.

Gutters In Dairy Barna.
Nothing else so conduces to elean;
milk and clean cows under ordinary,
conditions as a platform of proper
width and a gutter of sufficient width,
and depth. For large cows I prefer
a platform four feet and eight to ten)
Inches wide and a gutter from sixteen
to twenty inches wide and eight to ten
inches deep. If there is sufficient'
room a gutter of the larger dimenslon8
will be found satisfactory and with
no defects. I like gutters either en-
tirely of cement or of four inch brick,
walls on each side, with inside of walla
and bottom cemented, the latter directs-
ly on earth if the bottom Is good. The
wall next to the platform should he
covered by a plank two by twelve,
fastened so that it will not slide over
the edge of the gutter.—J. W. P. In
New England Homestead.
Keeping Potatoes.
It you pour the potatoes pellmell into
the bin don't be surprised if they rot.
Bruised potatoes are very apt to spoil.
That means Ioss, and loss means bard
time; by and by.
Keep the potatoes from the light and
air from the time they are dug. They,
should lie on the ground only just long,
enough to dry a little so that tbe moist
dirt will rattle off when they are han-
dled. IKeep the bin covered with oia
blankets, bran sacks, etc., all the time,
and keep the cellar windows closed,
after they are nil in. Take a lesson
from nature and see how the potatoes;
grow. If they grew exposed to the,
ght they wouldn't be fit to eat,—Faruk'
tournal.
