For the three positions of cetincil incumbent John Flynn is joined by newcomers Melvin Knox, Ron Gross, and Clare Vineent. The position of deputy reeve was Med by -Joe.Gibson:- • • - - - • - The reeve attends 12 re- gular township meetings. 12 county council meetings and about 10 extra meetings through the year for committees. The reeve is paid $1,200 yearly and councillors Councillors attend on the average 26-22 meetings per year. A questionnaire sent to the candidates asked for profile' material and questions about mattersfacing voters., The Ministry of Natural Resources would like to close several 'roads in -the township and council has turned down the remfest. He farms outside of • Auburn and is a member ,of the Londesboro Lions and the Londesboro Masonic Lodge. He and his wife Janet and their family belong to the Londesboro United Church and are active with the Blyth and District Community Centre.. Mr. Hunking sees the new Pits and Quarries Act as a serious matter facing voters. "Higher costs for gravel for road maintenance and buildup of roads" will be Incurred.' The work of the past councils has been "Satisfactory and the money has been well spent on the • new shed, grader, bridges and road buildup" in the township. On the matter or road closures Mr. Hunking wrote that some sort of compromise could be worked out after objection have been heard. THOMAS CUNNINGHAM Tom Cunningham has served !Julien township as deputy reeve, councillor: and townshi ,p school board. He has been farming at R.R. 1. Auburn since .1960. Mr: Cunningham is a member of the Canadian Order of Foresters. and is taking a leave of absence from the Auburn and District Lions Club. He,is the Past President of the Huron County Soil and Crop Association,. 'past ' president of the Huron County Junior. Farmers, and Clinton Junior, Farmers aSwell as a member of the Auburn Knox United Church. He and his wife Ila have five children, Linda,' Debbie, Roger, Julie, and Leona. .Mr. eunningham ,sees leadership as an issue facing voters. "We need someone who is able to speak on our . beh'alf at county council pins .be. a good chairman and representative both within and outside our township. Although Mr. Cunninharn admits he hasn't always agreed With issues raised at council he agrees that past councils have always "tried to work inthe best interests of the rate- payers. - Mr. Cunitigham supports the closing of the roads .by the Ministry of Natural Resources only if the people do not object. We must go through certain procedures to close these roads at which time the concerned people have ,a right to object. He has also worked with Boyes Transport and J.C. Corey's community , sales barn, both. in Clinton. He is also a member of the Fish and Game . Club, Clinton. Along with his wife Donalda and their three children Frank, Cheryl and Ray he is a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Clinton. His 'family has been active in the community and he takes part in the -recrea- tion committee for Hullett, and serves ..as an umpire for W.O.A.A. and O.B.A. hard- ball and softball. Mo.? Flynn is also a goal judge, and an executive for the Junior C Mustang !Rickey team in . canton: "I feel the most serious problem facing the voters in' Hullett township is the need for council to be elected from different areas around the township so the local problems can be notedby someone living in that particular area." Mr: Flynn pointed out that council has agreed to negotiate the sale of the roads to the Ministry of Natural Resources. "I, along with another member of council. was against any negotiation until all the pedple•in Hullett have had a chance to voice their objections to any road closings in the 'township.- . Mil'. Knox has fanned all his life and is a member of the Huron County Milk committee. Huron County Federation of Agricultare and a steward at the Londesboro United Church. He and his wife Barbara have • three children, Theresa, Melanie and Christopher.. Mr. Knox writes that he is looking forward to working and learning about council and feels satisfied with the work of previous councils. • HELM IC1OX Mr. Knox would like to see more details about the road closures through the Hullett Wildlife Area. He believes that alternatives are available and should be ex- plored.
