They had fresh made cider, quilt- ing; crafts, plants for sale and'much more. Home-made sausage was great ,,When saurkraut was on top. There was local talent and a big crowd attended. That was a good year but I would like to keep going. TOO COLD TO MOVE Get ready for a long ride ay this time. What's going or We've gone ahead one year andthe machine has stopped at October, 17, 1976. It was cold, snowy day and the people were bundled up so much that they could hardl move. Then children were hardly involved except for drinking the hot ntulled cider and sausage burgers. Butter was made as well as stuffed sausage and _of course cider. Shingle making was demonstrated on a machine operated by a steam engine. Some ladies,demon- strated hand spinning and dyeing. Plants, jams, dried Ifoweis and other crafts were sold, On the front lawn of the Van Egmond house. a CONDENSED AYLMER SOUPS TOMATO OR VEGETABLE rummage sale was held. Some children' from New Hamburg rang bells during the afternoon. As we board the machine again we stop at October 2, 1977. Again home made sausages and cider heating were Ciderfest highlights. That .year they tried some- thing new for children and adults. A festival city tour train from Stratford drove visitors = downtown id see Cardio' Hall. To add to the excitement, spinning wool, caning and quilting were all: demon- strated. There was an art display and a display of _musicboxes- and- -a- Regina -- phone. Two years later in 1979 Ciderfest was a little bit bigger yet. That year Junior Farmers helped out in telling people where to park their cars, crowd control and admission. This was the first year that teens helped out considerably in any way. Another' extra:for children in 1979 was pony rides around the grounds. There were crafts, sausage again and especially for children, cider in apple shaped cups. Also the SDHS band had a booth last year to raise money for their trip to Florida. They, iffe many other groupsthacta niinmage sale sort of table. , THIS YEAR Then we come back again to this year's Cider - fest, As you have probably noticed, each year's Cider - fest gets better and better. I'm sorry -to say, but I'm -afrjad this year's Ciderfest is going to be a hard one to beat. First of all there • was the beer tent. .need I say more? Well of course. The beer tent was a great idea and made a nice Satur- day aftenoon, so I was told. Sunday there were many disolava of crafts. baked cts, teens, in betweens goods and some old things you've had around the house and been dying to get rid of. Again the band participated in• Ciderfest and had a table for baked goods. The Junior Farmers helped out again and several children were involved.
