GUIDES
Last week the girls dis-
cussed marching in the Sun-
day School 200th birthday on
Sunday, Oct. 5.
The Guides are currently
• selling 1981 calendars for 75
cents each with proceeds
going to Girl Guides of
Canada.
The Guides also decided to
buy bricks for the new
headquarters in London Eng-
land. The cost of one brick is
10 cents. A hike to the
Clinton Conservation ,,Area
has been cancelled because
of the 200th Birthday Party.
CUBS
Last week the cubs were
taught the Jungle Opening,.
The new Cubs (CHUMS)
were introduced to the totem
pole and its meaning. John
McLachlan received his Col-
lectors Badge and Colin
Thomas received his Per-
sonal Fitness Badge for the
Award of Excellence in Can-
ada Fitness Program.
There was 100% turnout
on Sunday Sept. 28 for the
hike to Sauble Conservation
Area. The boys used the
fitness trail to its full extent.
We would like to welcome
Shiela Maxwell, a new mem-
ber to our group. The girls
are selling Guide calendars
for 75 cents with -proceeds
going to the Pathfinders.
Some of the girls presented a
skit from their Blidge Book.
There will b0, a Lions Club
dinner meeting on Wednes-
day, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. at the
Vanastra Recreation Centre.

ated for the huge 200th
birthday party to be held on
Sunday Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. The
Sunday School, Beavers,
Brownies, Cubs, Guides,
Pathfinders, -Lioness and
Lions will be marching in the
opening ceremony. There
will be singing, special
music, poster priZes, special
birthday *ifts to the church
folloWed by a potluck lunch,
The. church will provide
soup, coffee and freshie for
the children. Everyone is
welcome.

munication instructor ' work -
Ow held at the Intetfaith
Pistoral Counseling Centre
• at Cambridge Friday and
Saturday was attended by
Peter Mantel, Minister of the
Vanastra Church. Mr. Man-
tel who specializes in the
area of marriage, and family
counseling is now a qualified
-Trisfructoto---teach----groups-
this program. Couple Com-
munication is a marriage
enrichment program.- Mr.
Mantel is in his 2nd year
internship at the Interfaith
Centre and will be complet-
ing his training program by
the end nf June 1981.

Stratford Christian Reformed
Church on Sunday evening.
This service marked the
official relationship between
the Stratford clnirch As the
supporting congregatitm of
the Vanastra Church.

A successful Multiple
Sclerosis meeting was held at
the Centie,,n Monday Sept.
22. About 40 people attended
—and -a -Huron -County -Unit -was -0
formed with an executive.
Two new groups have joined
the Special Needs program.
One is a grhup for the
Bluewater Centre of Goder-
ich and the other is from the
Heather Gardens and spon-
sored by the Ministry of
Community and. Social Ser-
vices.
Any children interested in
youth basketball or volleyball
please contact the Centre at
482-3544.
• Meny fitness began last
Monday and ' everyone was
relatively tuckered after the
first class. There is plenty of
room in ,the class for more.
• The fall classes in swim-
ming and exercises begin
ibis week so the centre is
quite busy. Most classes are
filli but some still have

VANASTRA PUBLIC
- SCHOOL
On Friday, Oct. 3, the first
f--eight-swimming-sessions-
will take place at the Vana-
stra, Recreation Centre. All
children Grades one to six
are Included in this physical
education activity. Each child
will' have 20 minutes in the
pool each week.
Huron County Library
books have arrived and are
on display in our new multi-
putpose room.
