Head smut, corn rootworm, corn borer and fail arrny- worm. Head smut, this past year, has received a lot of attention and appears as not. too big a problem. The other two, rootworrn and corn borer, are a problem. Hy- brids. with good stalk strength. can give you some protection against rootworm and borer. When you are buying hybrid; this year. i would suggest you put more emphasis on stalk strength than on any rumors about bead smut. (I have heard some real good rumors about head smut.
