Dr. Gaw is a sociologist, and educator, trustees teachers and par, ents really understand what we are buying when vee turn for help to the new moral values education?, These excercises of• thought being led .by the teacher and each child participates lest ,no final moral i,ssue is given by the teacher, leaving our yputh to Make their own moral judgement. D. Gaw warns of the danger of this method of teaching values and is concerned that techniques are applied to children, without parental knowledge or consent. Do we all school Kenneth Smote dies in focal accident Kenneth Smale, 32, of R.R.3. Zurich, was killed early Thursday morning when his car collided with a transport truck at Highway 83 and Con. 8. Mr. Smote is the son of Howard and Jean Smale of Hensall. Exeter OPP said a car driven by Mr. Smile collided with a truck driven by George Bergsma of Alliston at the Highway 83 intersec- tion at 4 a.m. Thursday morning. Mr. Srnalc was alone in his car at the time of thc accident. Mr. Smale is survived by his wife, Sylvia Anne (Wilder) Smale. and child- ren. 'Jenny Marie and Daryl Chinese foods Kenneth Smale. He is also survived by parents Howard and Jean Smale of Hensel] and brothers Paul and Leonard of Hensall, Otto of British Columbia and sisters Mrs. Barry (Shirley) South - colt. Hensel! and Mrs. John Ruth) Erb of Goderich. Funeral services were held from thc Westlake Funeral Home. Zurich on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 11:30 with Rev. Father P. MEET President Mrs. Florence Hyde presided for the September meeting._ of Carmel Presbyterian W.M.S. on Mnoday evening and opened with a poem "Harvest". Mrs. Esther Wright led in prayer. The offering was receive4 and dedicated by Mrs. Hyde. The Fall Rally will be held on October 8th at 1:30 p.m. Correspondence was read and a discussion over a service followed, with Mrs. Lloyd Mousscau, Mrs. Al Hoggarth and Mrs. Robert Taylor on the Committee. A moment's silence was observed .in memory of the late Mrs. Agnes Madge. LADIES' AID FOLLOWED Mrs. Al Hoggarth presided for the meeting of the Ladies' Aid which followed. A card of thanks was read from the family of the late Mrs, Agnes Madge. Tuckersmith Unit One meets Tuckersmith Unit 1 met September 8. with Mrs. Beatrice Stoll and Mrs. Hazel McNaughton taking Devo- tions. Mrs. McNaughton spoke on the "Fruit af the vine" and "Fruit of the Spirit". Membergave extra collection for the two summer months while on vacation. Mrs. Hazel McCartney presided over the business portion and welcomed all to the rneeting. A.TTRND CHURCH SERVICE AT KINTAIL A number of members of Carmel Presbyterian Church -arteldia-the Congregational ' service at -Camp Kintail on Sunday. Rev. Kenneth Knight conducted the service which was followed by a noon luncheon and social time. , UNITED CHURCH. There was a very large attendance at the United Church Sunday morning when the congregation observed Thfistiari- Education Sunday and the opening day of the Sunday Church School. Rev. McDonald spoke on the subject of "Food For Our Journey" based on the story of Jesus at 12 visiting the Temple. Mr. McDonald stressed the open Bible is the ' very symbol of Christian Education 4nd this scripture and story must be told over and over again, especially ltohveest. ories of Jesus and His We must present Jesus as "the Center of Everything" he stressed, that is what the content of our Christian Education is all about. Barbara Gackstetter is the Superintendent and Florence Slade the Secretary -treasurer with Glenn Sladeaand Scott Jesney the Audio Visual Directors, The Children's story was "Things Missing". The ushers for the day were Steven Sararas, Ross Veal, Eric Mansfield and ,Cecil Pepper. Pat O'Brien greeted the congregation. At the close of the service Mr. McDonald irifrociuced the students, along with their teachers, to the congrega- tion. The flowers in the sanctuary to the Glory of God and In Loving Memory of Kenneth Smale plated by the family; and Mrs. Mansfield, placed by her son Eric and family. The Sunday Church School staff of the United Church met on Friday evening to make final preparation for the opening of Sunday School. With extra classes this year rooms were assigned and curriculum outlined. Plans were also made for extra activities for the students with A Christmas party on December 12th, and a skating party with film night in March. The staffwill meet again - on Monday. September 22nd to begin plans a preparation for their White Gift Service and Pageant which will be presented on Sunday, November 30th. Harv is an Ontario Hydro forester, and they have a four-year-old son. Scott Consitt is enrolled in the Business Management course at Centralia Agricultural c ollege and will be in residence there. It's fascinating to watch Grant Webster's new monster corn harvester gobble up six rows of corn at a time. It sure doesn't take long to fill a triick with it. One of the more reliable signs that winter is not 'too far off has appeared --- our scampering four -legged friends are moving in for shelter from the cold. Good news for the 1.1,CsW, ladies who worked at thehall park booth -- they cleared enough to pay for the floor refinishing at the church. And a special thanks to the men who helped in any way. Teenagers who like to have a good time should attend the "Teen Weekend" Camp at Menesetung this weekend. Bill and Mary Chessell were guests at the Gary LeSouder -Sherry Happy wedding in St: Paul's Anglican Church in Stratford on Saturday. The young people of Varna and Goshen churches should be interested in hearing Rev. Alun Thomas of Bayfield, the guest preacher at Varna's' anniversary service. He is reported to have a good rapport with. young people and children in his own " congregation, as well as with the adults. Rev. Thomas was ordained in the Church of _Wales, and has resided in other countries. For a time, he was a male nurse, He also plays guitar. There will be no Sunday School this week. We're looking forward to seeing many of our friends at the turkey smorgasbord on Wednesday evening.
