After serving as a member of Hewn
*nen for 19 years, Reeve Harold Knight
annOUnced at Monday's council meeting
he's retiring;
At the end of the meeting, he told fellow
council tnetnbers that he would like,to have
made it 20,years on council, but didn't want
to retire in mid-term. The reeve, whojs a
Hensall electrician, said he hasn't madenp••
his mind yet whether he'll run for the PUein
the Nov. 10 municipal election.
: Mr. Knight has been reeve for the past
foUr years. During that time, he served on
the Huron County Planning Board for three
years, including one year as chairman. This
year, he is a member cif the Huron County
development committee. "
The reeve told council when he started in
m nicipal politics 19 years ago, he' Was full
of enthusiasm, and "I figured I could do
an, ing." He said during his first five years
on duncif his ideas were "shot down" many
times. The reeve said he decided to retire
from council when he realized it was harder
to maintain the same enthusiasm now.
"I think we need a little fresh vitality on
council," he said.
The reeve said he thinks county council
will be very exciting next year, due to its
smaller size, and added there were a number
of challenges facing Hensall council. '
He said businessmen in the town should
consider the Business Improvement Area
(BIA) program, which has been adopted in.
the neighbouriHg municipalities of Clinton,
Exeter and Seaforth. The reeve said the
town will also need senior citizens housing
in the future.
The reeve, a former Seaforth resident, is
the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Knight
of Seaforth.
After the reeve' S announcement, Patti
Neilands, another council veteran,
. announced he will be seeking the reeve's job
in the upcoming election.
The three other council members- Richard
Packharn, Klaus Van Wieren and Harry
Klungel-all indicated they plan to, run for
cOtincil again. -
In other business, Huron County planner
Roman Dzus attended the session to review
the proposed submission of application to
the Ontario Municipal Board allowing Hen-
sall to annex 100 acres to the north of the
village and 101 acres to the south.
. Before attending the Heifsall meeting,
Mr. Dzus appeared before Hay Township
