surnmer garnes
More than 2,000 athletes
from around the province
travelled to Peterborough
last weekend to compete ,in
the Ontario Summer Games.
Among the approximately
200 canoeists entered in
various racing events,
several local teams captured
medals.
Rene Boogemans of'
Hensall, along with his
partner, Kathy Armstrong of
London, won the gold medal
for the senior mixed MC2
class, while Murray Connelly
of Kippen and Mary Ellen
Knight of London placed
second in the mixed MC3 in a
close finish just inches

RiCk kioss of Brucefield
and Tony Gibbings of Clinton
left with the gold for junior
men's MC2 competition. In
the junior class, Dana Kloss
of Brucefield and Karen
Cowan of Brussels teamed
up to win the bronze medal
for third place.
The occasion was a
testimonial dinner for the
town's leading citizen.
"Friends", he said, "when I
came to your city, I had one
suit, one pair of shoes and
all my earthly possessions
wrapped op in a
handkerchief. This city has
been good to me -and I
worked hard. Now I'm
presiden tof the bank. own 10
buildings, and five
companies. Yes. my friends,
your town has been good to
me."
After the banquet. an
awed youngster approached
the great man. hoping to find
out his secret of success.
"Please sir." he asked,
"what did you hade in that
handkercheif?"
"Well. young man," the
millionaire reported! "I had
about S30.000 in cash and
S850,000 in securities.

handle ithe separation of
Older 'children from their
mother. A few women have
chlasen not to be separated
from children and explained
that after giving birth to
healthy infants the mother
and child were discharged
from hospital going home the
same day. This arrangement
is prediscussed between the
family and the doctor and is
often allowed because the
mother will be breastfeeding
which offers her baby added
