Catharine Corbett, tour - year old daughter of Mr, and Mrs. Al Corbett, recently underwent surgery at Unied versity Hospital, London fol- lowing an accident. She returned home Friday. Mrs. Howie Wright, Matthew and Laura of Cam- bridge, visited with friends here last week. IRENE TURNER Miss Irene Turner died suddenly in St. Joseph's hospital, London on Thurs- day, August 7, 1950. She was tornterly a Stanley Township R.R. 1, Varna, Ontario. Surviving is a brother Wilmer, R.R. 1, Varna, one sister Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Taylor, R.R. 2, Hensall. One brother.predeceased (1931). Funeral service• was "held from lionthron Funeral Home, Kemal! on Sunday, August 10th with Rev. Stan- ley McDonald officiating, Interment at Bayfield Cem- etery. Pallbearers were Keith 5tephenson, Robert Turner, Jack Coleman, Bill Consitt, David Turner, Ronald Cole- man. Flower bearers were • Stewart, • Mustard, Phillip James, Jim Consitt and 1,Lowell Mount. Rev. Kenneth Knight con- ducted morning worship. in. Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sunday. The subject of his sermon was • "Repentende That Is Too Late". Kr. and MTS. Brian Campbell, Mrs. Mona Camp- bell and Mrs. Cora Wurm returned from a two week motor trip where they visited with Mr, and Mrs. Ralph Wasson at Parrsboro, Nova Scotia. Mrs. Eric Luther returned from a two week's vacation with her son and daughter- in-law and family Mr. and Mrs. Don Luther at St. John's Newfoundland. They also visited with Mrs. Hazel Luther, and relatives,in Deer Lake and Corner Brook. Mr. and Mrs, Carl Payne Visited With Mrs. Emma Payne of Elmira on Sunday afternoon. HENSALL U.C. TO BE CLOSED AUGUST 17th Rev,. Stanley C. McDonald conducted the morning ser- vice at Hensall United Church on Sunday, August 10th with Miss Brenda Pep- ari atea news per at the piano. Partici- pation of the congregation, was the key word for the -day. For a solo, Mrs. Harry Stuart sang "Lord of The Dance" with the congre- gation joining in the chorus. The congregation was taught the chorus 'Cheer Up Ye Saints of God" and it was sung several times. The sermon was giver by " Lorne Thrower, who Spoke on "Faith and Habitsor Habits and Faith". The word Faith is found in the Bible almost as many times as the word Love. Faith is the habit of believing. Believing is to have faith in a person or thing. Habits are doing things over and over again and can be positive or nega- tive. Faith is believing with- out proof, involves risk, and lives in pioayer. She received a plague for her award, Tammy is the oldest granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alphonse Grenier, also a granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. _Elgin wood. arna lady home rom Liskeard Correspondent - MRS. MARY CHESSELL 482-990 , Florence Elliott returned home on Sunday after a six-week holiday, tweweeks with her son Ross and his family of New Liskeard, and the remainder of the time with Bruce and his family of Aurora. The Chessells' house was re -shingled pretty fast on Saturday with assistance from members of the family and many Hydro friends, plus Bob Webster next door and young Steven Taylor with tractor and loader. They were finished by mid-after- noon. . I see a number of grand- parents have out-of-town grandchildren visiting, in- cluding Bill McAsh's, Mervin Johnstones, Bill Taylors and Bill Chessells. Bob Speir has finished painting the interior ofVarna church, with the exception a the choir loft, which he will do after repairing a • leak. While the pews are still out, the floor is being refinished. At a meeting on the week- end, the stewards decided to' put a drain on the south side of the church and change the slope of the ground on the north to rectify the problem of 'Surface water getting into the basement. , Church services resume next Sunday, with an outdoor service at Stanley Park on the lake followed by the annual picnic.
