One of the peonliar incidents in marine
annals at this port is the mysterious dis-
appearance of the schooner Jalia Larson
from the entrance of the harbor Satur-
day night. The Larson, a small two -
masted sohooner of about 200 tons capaci-
ty, arrived off here Saturday after noon
with a cargo of lumber, consigned to
local dealers, but, with the wind blow-
ing briskly from off shore, the captain
decided to droptanchor and await a tug.
Leaving one man aboard, Captein Mit-
chell pat off for the harbor in the yawl
boat to secure a tug. Returning a few
hours later on board the tug Horton,
they were unable to locate the schooner,
she havidg either slipped or dragged he r
anchor, The lonely sailor either fell
asleep or made no attempt to attract at-
tention by light or other signal, and,
with the strong breeze, must have been
carried westward at a lively clip. Un-
able to locate the vessel in the intense
darkness, the tug returned to port to
await daylight. No trace of the drift-
ing schooner could be found Sunday,
