After many meetings and much discussion, the new Walton Recreation Centre• will nall be opening on Saturdyu1y 19. In August of 1979, people from Walton and the sur- rounding municipalities of Morris, Grey and MCKillop attended a meeting -in which they discussed the possibility of-constructing•some type of - community centre which could house a library, wash- rooms and a food stand for the ball park. The recreation committee had S6,500 saveci from previous fund-raising everfts and $1500 from a dance and draw held this year. They also. received a community re- creation centres grant from the province all of thismoney will go towards the construc- tion costs of the building. The opening of the facility is being celebrated in style on. The music was lead by Louise Mc Gregor. On Friday parents Mid friends viewed the crafts aid then children presented a program. Shirley Scott open- ed the program, leading songs with her guitar. One class of boys put on a skit. Rev. Scott introduced the leaders and presented each with a thank you diploma. He complimented and thanked them for their interest. W. that delegates to St. Thorna.s school for women are Joan Whyte and Marjorie Duizer. Also reported on the U.C.W. July 10, noon lunch and dinner July 19 for Myth surnmer festival. Addie Hunking reported for Congregational life and work. Annual family outdoor service and picnic for July 20th is at 11 a.m. at Camp Menestung and teachers and. teaders would be welcome. Worship and program was by Margaret Whyte and Hattie Wood. Margaret read Help Yourself to Happiness and scripture was read by Hattie. Margaret read "Eruptions to hope" by Jean Vanier. Hattie Wood spoke about bot people and introduced her daughter Lois Andrews. a member of Northlea United Church in Toronto. where they are sponsoring a family from Vietnam, which in- cludes Father aged 24: mother 21; and a baby boy. Their church began in Feb. 1979 and raised 59000. They are giving the family 590 a week to live on. He is an electrician and she has 1 year of nurse's training. They have adjusted well. Lois was thanked by Edythe Beacom and Margaret Whyte presen- ted her with a gift. Lunch was served by Mar- garet Anderson and Elsie Shadclick. W.I. Agriculture meeting was held on July 9th in the . Sunday School rooms. Pres- ident Alice Buchanan wet - corned all and thanked. all who helped with Graduation Banquet and gave reading "My Garden." This coming Saturday the Walton Area Sports Club are planning for the Grand Opening of the new Recre- ation Center Building. This is not a new community hall. The old building will be used for several functions. It is looked after by the Institute and the dance will be held at the community hall bringing the big event to a close.
