No loss for Squirts, PeeWees, Mosquitoes
The St. Columban Mosquitoes
played Grand Bend at Grand
Bend's Klondike Park last week,
and downed their hosts 4-2 in a
right soccer match. Pat Coyne and
Adam Nolan worked the net, and
the scoring was opened by Pat
Coyne. Greg Visser brought in St.
Columban's second goal, while
Greg Van Bakel and Jeff Van Loon
rounded the score out to four.
The PeeWee team was on the
road to Lucan on Tuesday, June 12
to do battle with the Lucan squad.
Good hustle on the part of the
whole team, with special mention to
Lawrence Flanagan, secured a tidy
5-1 win for St. Columban.
Lawrence had his best outing to
date in this game, setting up a
number of good scoring oppor-
tunities and never slowing down.
Colin Devereaux, Dave Middegaal
and Mike Hugill also had very
strong games for St. Columban, and
Chad Lamont played well in neL
The PeeWee goals came from
Jason Henderson and Jason Murray,
with two each, and one by Scott
Vosper.
A 2-0 win for the SL Columban
Squirt team over Exeter rounded
out play on June 7, with Brad
Schoonderwoerd getting both points
for the team. St. Columban's first
goal was a penalty shot that the
goalie managed to get a piece of -
but not a big enough piece to save
it. Goal number two was scored
when a free kick from the 18 yard
line found its mark.

On Monday June 11, the St.
Columban Under -17 team travelled
to Lucan and lost a close game with
a 5-4 score in favour of Lucan. St.
Columban showed up for the game
with nine men and played hard,
holding the game to a close defen-
sive battle.
Lucan led the match 3-2 at half-
time. St. Columban half -back Steve
Bicknell scored after picking up a
Steve Ryan rebound and putting it
into the net. Forward Ryan scored
the other goal of• the half on a
breakaway, and' the goalie never
had a chance.

for new members
Any eager swimmers who are interested in competing on a swim team
this summer are invited to come down to the Lion's pool every Monday,
Wednesday and Friday afternoon, 4 - 5 p.m., for open practices beginning
July 2. Jane Rowcliffe, a lifeguard at the Lion's pool, adds that there is no

enough swimmers come out, tank tops will be ordered for members. The
fee for swim team will be $20. All other regular programs are also set to

headball from a Mike Etue cross to
make it a 4-3 game. The referee
called a very questionable goal for
Lucan with 15 minutes to go in the
match and Lucan went up 5-3.
SL Columban pressured the Lucan
squad into making some mistakes
and capitalized on another Steve
Ryan goal late in the game. The
locals had many chances to tie the
score, but failed to put the tying
goal into the net. Dean Murray and
Kurt Lindemann played strong
games as Steve Hicknell and Kalen
Carroll shared goaltending duties.
A "job well done" goes out to the
nine players that came out to the
game, and to coach Bill Vospar.

game was drilled in by Grand Bend
in the opening minutes of the
match. At half time, the score read
3-0 for Grand Bend. St. Columban
had plenty of opportunities but just
couldn't seem to put the ball into
the net.
The sole Atom I goal was scored
by Scott Schoonderwoerd, with an
assist by Scott Van Dooren. Mat-
thew Cronin put out an outstanding
effort in the St. Columban net, with
