Atom I's scrape by Arva
The St. Columban Atom 1 soccer
team met the Arva squad at the
Dublin playing fields last Wednes-
day, May 30, and defeated their
guests by a close score of 5-4.
Scolt Scjtoonderwoerd was the
hero of the hour, scoring all five St.
Columban goals with assists
provided by Kyle Bennewies on
two goals and Scott Van Dooren
helping out on another.
It looked like it was going to be
an Arva victory, but a strong
comeback be St. Columban in the
final 15 minutes of the game saved
the day. Good ;defence work by
Nicole Munroe, Wesley Vick, Chris
Verberne and Ryan Van Dooren
kept the Arva attack downdto four
goals, with strong half -back play by
Matt Cronin. Scott Van Dooren
tended net for the first half of the
game, relieved by Tim. Sills in, the
second half.

fine form to bring home a 3-0. win.
St. Columban had plenty of chances
in the first half, but couldn't get
past the Exeter goalie. The Atoms
went into high gear in the second
half, however, and scored three
goals, one thanks to Scott
Schoonderwoerd assisted by Ryan
Van Dooren and Tricia Jansen, and
two booted in by Scott Van Dooren,
with an assist by Robbie Janmaat
on one and help from Scott
Schoonderwoerd and Tricia Jansen
on the second.

IT'S ALL THERE ON THE FACES - The idea of soccer is to hit
the ball, but as these faces show, the head isn't the greatest way
to go about things. Here, a St. Columban player heads the ball
out of reach of an Exeter rival. Elliott photo.
