Following bowling; -holy dogs and coffee were served. Lawn bowlers have been active in out-of-town tournaments with a men's rink, bowling in London this past week and also in Exeter. There will be two tournaments in Seaforth this week with men's pairs on Wednesday starting at 10:30 a.m. and Ladies pairs on Thursday starting *Alitwith .a brown bag lunch. June 19 will be the monthly pot luck supper, with bowling or cards after. Please note this is one week early due to the Senior Games being played in Stratford. Members of the Seaforth Club were'saddened to hear of the death of Mel Brady of St.Marys. For. fifteen years Mel and Esther' had been valued members 'of the Seaforth Lawn Bowling Club and Mels expertise on the draw commit- tee will be especially missed. Atom I's scrape by Arva The St. Columban Atom 1 soccer team met the Arva squad at the Dublin playing fields last Wednes- day, May 30, and defeated their guests by a close score of 5-4. Scolt Scjtoonderwoerd was the hero of the hour, scoring all five St. Columban goals with assists provided by Kyle Bennewies on two goals and Scott Van Dooren helping out on another. It looked like it was going to be an Arva victory, but a strong comeback be St. Columban in the final 15 minutes of the game saved the day. Good ;defence work by Nicole Munroe, Wesley Vick, Chris Verberne and Ryan Van Dooren kept the Arva attack downdto four goals, with strong half -back play by Matt Cronin. Scott Van Dooren tended net for the first half of the game, relieved by Tim. Sills in, the second half. The Atom I's' knew - that they would have to be on their toes for • ureic away match against Exeter III on June 4, and the team went out in fine form to bring home a 3-0. win. St. Columban had plenty of chances in the first half, but couldn't get past the Exeter goalie. The Atoms went into high gear in the second half, however, and scored three goals, one thanks to Scott Schoonderwoerd assisted by Ryan Van Dooren and Tricia Jansen, and two booted in by Scott Van Dooren, with an assist by Robbie Janmaat on one and help from Scott Schoonderwoerd and Tricia Jansen on the second. Schoonder- woerd,Squirt Mguest Cronin Chris Verberne and Nicole-ilIunro put up a strong defensive friar t for the goattenders, with Matt Cronin doing double -duty in the riot for the first half and Wes Vick taking over for the second half. Special mention to Squirt players Debbie Van Bake! and Daryl Schotildenvoerd for filling in for the evening. St. Columban men in three way tie for first after wm The St. Columban men's soccer team has increased its record to four wins, one loss and no ties. The team got in their fourth win of the season last Sunday when they beat Exeter 2 to 1. Exeter opened the storing on a -penalty shot goal. St. Columban. carriedmostof the play in the first half but they failed to put the ball past the Exeter goaltender. St. Columban continued to press in the second `.half and were finally rewarded with a goal. Jason Schoonderwoerd picked up this point on a long free kick that curved into the top corner. St. Columban forwards had a bit of hard luck, as both Sean Melady and Tony Arts drove shots off the posts. The team's hard work and deter- mination finally paid off late irk the game. Rem Murray and Tony Arts played a give -and -go Vast the Exeter defence and Tony Arts ended the rush by driving the ball into the top left-hand corner of the net. That ended the scoring and St. Columban capped the win 2-1. St. Columbans' record and eight point total puts them in a three-way tie for first place in their division with Sarnia and Wallaceburg. After a team shake-up the squad now consists of all local players, namely Jason Dietz, Mike Murray, Rem Murray, Jim O'Reilly, Jason choonderwoend, Terry Sloan, Dean , Sean Melady, Steve Ryan, Dave Kelly, Jason Cooper, Martin Moylan, Karsten Carroll and Tony Arts. Their next game is this Sunday in Chatham versus the Chatham Express.
