Girl: Guides have an
d leader in Susan
Halfpenny. Susan was involved in
die guiding experience from the age
of eight as a Brownie. then as a
Gal Guide and she went on to
bei a's Sea Ranger when she was
16. In 1967 Susan went to an buer-
national Gni; Guide camp and tuet
Lady Baden Powell, fou$er of the
Girl. Guide movement. Five years
ago Susan joined the Girl Guide
movement in Seaforth and this year
she had 11 girls to work with.
Helen Van Bakel is Susan's hel-
per and her help is greatly ap-
preciated b'y Susan and the girls.
Helen, St. James school's kinder-
garten teacher, has helped the girls
with outdoor activities, bine hikes,
star gazing and outdoor games.
This year the Girl Guides par-
ticipated in a Guide Area Day in
Walkerton and a Guide Rally in
Mitchell. They also went to camp
and went to Canada's Wonderland
for an overnight trip that was at-
tended by 2,000 guiders from On-
tario,celebrating 80 years of guiding
in Canada. That trip was part of
Canada Girl Guide Day sponsored
by Canada's WonderlandMay 25.
The Brownies in the Seaforth are
have two leaders they canoe proud
of. Ruth Hildebrand, Brown Owl,
and Lorraine Noakes, Snowy.Owl,
worked with 53 Brownies this year.

give of themselves and their time
every week. Hilda Bach helps by
doing bookkeeping and banking for
the Brownies and she works with
the girls collecting Pennies for
Friendship. At the Brownie
meetings Hilda helps make crafts
with the girls. Christy Eckert has
been nicknamed 'Barn Owl' and
was a Girl Guide when she was a
girL She became a volunteer for
Brownies when her daughter
became a member.
Janet Moody is new to the
guiding experience and became a
helper when her daughter became
involved with Brownies. Janet likes
helping the Brownies because she
enjoys the girls and spending time
with them. Wanda Moran has two
daughters in Brownies and through
them she could see the need for
volunteers since there were 53 girls
involved. Wanda was a Ranger
when she was younger and she
enjoyed the camp experiences and
meeting girls from other groups.

years. She was a Brownie and a
Girl Guide as a child and achieved
her All Round Cord. While she was
a Girl Guide she was a junior
leader with Brownies. Her daughter
joined Brownies three years ago
and Georgina took that as an oppor-
tunity
pportunity to help .both -the. Brownies
and her daughter. There are 52
badges available to Brownies and
Georgina has helped them earn
and a Girl Guide. Helen enjoys
working with, children -and became
a helper for Brownies "when
daughter joined. She was impressed
with the Seaforth Brownies and
could see how they had grown and
thrived under the leaders.
The Brownies have a badge
secretary, Georgina Reynolds, and
she has helped thein with their
badge work and testing, for two

LAVERTY - SMITH
Sandra Laverty, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Bill Laverty of Seaforth,
exchanged wedding vows with
Michael Smith of Surrey, B.C., son
of Mr. and Mrs. John Smith of
Darunouth, England. Reverend
Cheryl Ann Stedelbauer-Sampa
presided over the ceremony, which
took place on Monday. June 4 at
The Church Restaurant, Stratford.
Karen Laverty of Seaforth was the
Maid of Honour for the ceremony,
with John Smith of Dartmouth,
England, father of the bride, acting
as Best Man, Ringbearer was Lance
Laverty, Seaforth. After a
honeymoon in Kenya, Africa, the
couple, will reside in Surrey, B.C.

KISSNER - CAIRNS
Pioneer Park, Bayfield, Ontario
was the setting for a June wedding
when Christine Kissner, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Kissner. Tees -
water exchanged wedding vows
with John Cairns, son of Mr. and
Mrs. John Cairns or Egmondville
on Saturday, June 9. Reverend
Arnold Proud presided over the
ceremony.
The piper for the ceremony was
Greg McPherson of Londesborough,
with Mrs. Christine Johnson and
Doug Blackwell, both of Teeswater,
performing as soloists.
Allison Kissner of Niagara Falls
was the Maid of Honour, with
Larry Dolmage of Seaforth acting
as Best Man. The Bridesmaids were
Patricia Lindsay of Toronto, Tami
Allan of Lucknow and Anne Marie
Harradine of Barrie. Ushers were
Brett Finlayson of Seaforth, Pete
Jansen of Seaforth and Michael
Kissner of Teeswater.
After a reception at the Seaforth
and District Community Centres,
the couple left for a honeymoon in
the Poconos and Cincinatti. They
will reside on George St. East,

Linda Zirk, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. George Beer of Hensall, ex-
changed wedding vows with Ken
Firman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Firman of Watford, on May 26,
1990. Reverend Stanley MacDonald
presided over the ceremony, which
took place at the home of the bride.
The bride was given in marriage by
Darren Zink. Betty Jinks was
Matron of Honour and soloist for
the ceremony, and Doug Beaudin of
Parkhill was the Groomsman. Usher
was Brian Beer of Hensall, brother
of the bride. The couple will be

MCLAUGHLIN - COLBOURNE
St. Thomas Anglicans Church,
Seaforth was the setting for a June
wedding on Jane. 8, 19.,90 when
Debbie McLaughlin, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph McLaughlin;
Seaforth exchanged marriage vows
with Dave Colbourn, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Norman Colbourn, St.
Catharines. Pastor Glen Sadler of
the Bethel Bible Church presided
over the ceremony.
Matron of Honour was Cindy
DeVries, London, sister of the bride
and Dave DeVries, brother-in-law
of the bride, acted as Best Man.
Bridesmaids were Kelly Putman of
St. Catharines, niece of the bride,
Olivia Arsenault, Stratford, cousin
of the bride, and Christina Ar-
senault, Stratford, cousin of the
bride. Ushers were Gerry McLaugh-

Brownies went, on hikes, had a tea

Seaforth Girl Guides on their over-
night trip to Canada's Wonderland,
Their year winded up with their Fly
Up ceremony in which girls who
have completed the Brownie
program requirements 'fly up' to
Girl Guides. ,
Sparks 'is a`new group for girls
younger than Brownies and they
have been'in Seaforth for almost
two years'Tlhe Seaforth Sparks are
the only Sparks group is the
district. Their leader is Sam Shay
and this year she led six Sparks.
Sara wasn't involved in the guiding
experience when she was a child,
but asan adult shehas been in-
volved with other community
groups. This year the Sparks met
every week to participatein the
program provided by Sara,
Guiding has been available to
girls in the Seaforth area for almost
51 years. As the girls and leaders
break for the summer they look
forward to another year of guiding
in 1990-91.
