A surprise party was held after shuf-
fleboard to celebrate John Peppers' 88th
birthday. Twenty-one well-wishers
attended.
HENSAILL UNITED CHURCH NEWS
Worshippers were greeted at the door of
the Hensall United Church this past Sun-
day by Pat Campbell and Reverend Doug
Wright.
During the Children's Time, Rev. Wright
explained to the children about the two
parts of the Chinese symbol for the word
'crisis'. He explained that when God is

Rev. Wright's sermon was entitled
"Preaching Christ". He told us that our
Christian faith and church is not dull and
boring but should challenge us all the days
of our lives and then some. Terri Consitt
read the scriptures on behalf of the Sunday
School, and the choir sang a beautiful
piece entitled "Lord Make us Worthy".

Staffa Women Institute held their an-
nual meeting in the Township hall on
Wednesday evening, April 18.
Florence McPhail presided, welcoming
everyone and opening with the Institute
Ode and Mary Stewart Collect, plus a

Members were reminded of the upcom-
ing District Annual, hosted this year by St.
Pauls Woolens' Institute on Wednesday,
May 15. The theme is "A Better Tomor-
row" and Staffa is responsible for enter-
tainment in the morning. Delegates to the
District Annual are: Roberta Templeman,
Joyce Vivian and Verle Mahon.
Sixteen members answered the roll call
,by paying their fees and giving a sugges-
tion for a meeting in 1990-91. Joyce Miller
gave a humorous reading entitled "He Was
Trying To Do The Job Alone."
Lillian Douglas chaired the annual
meeting with Verle Mahon as acting
secretary. Reports given by the different
Menesetung are now available from Rev.
Wright..
The annual Herman Yard Sale is coming
up at the end of May. If your spring clean-
ing turns up some saleable that you don't
need any more, please leave them in the
basement of the United Church.
The annual meeting of the London Con-
ference will be held this Thursday, May 3
and through to Sunday May 6 at Centralia
College, Huron Park. Details of the con-
ference are available at the church. All
are welcome to observe the 'larger' church
in action.

Many children from this community par-
ticipated in the Music Festival in Mitchell
this past week. Our congratulations to all
who participated.
Many friends and relatives attended the
open house at the home of Gordon and
Ada Hoggarth on Friday. The occasion was
their celebration of 50 years of marriage.
Gordon and Ada farmed at Staffa prior to
their retirement to Exeter. Congratulations
on this happy occasion.
The new president said a few words,
then closed the meeting with "0 Canada."
A social half hour was arranged by Grace
Kerslake and Roberta Templeman.
