BETTY McCALL 887-6677 The April meeting of Walton 1 Unit was held in the church basement Wednesday evening. Devotions were led by Mary Humphries, assisting Marjory Fraser in Scripture readings and prayer. Hymns were sung with Doreen Hackwell as pianist. Margery Huether took as the topic Easter and also touched on the Liturgical colors that 16 members answered the roll call on. Margery gave a very interesting thought on the Theme - From Ashes to Easter and conducted a Symbol Quiz on the Lenten and Easter Symbols. Phyllis Mitchell presided for the business. Minutes were read by Audrey Hackwell. Offering was received and dedicated. It was decided to leave the cop- per contest collection until the June meeting. Bale articles may be left in the church basement anytime after April 25. Plans were completed for the Daffodil Tea and bake sale this Saturday, April 21. Both Hensall United unit members are to donate at least two articles for each Gable. The meeting closed with the benediction followed by a half hour of fellowship dur- ing lunch served by Leona McDonald, Mary Humphries and Alice Searle. W.I. NEWS The Walton Women's Institute will serve a beef luncheon this Wednesday at the hall. The annual meeting will be held at night with a banquet at the Walton Inn called for 6:30 p.m. CHURCH NEWS Several visitors joined in with the con- gregation of Duff's United Church for the Easter Service on Sunday morning, follow- ing service at Bluevale United Church. Easter .Lilies adorned the front of the church these to be .given later to the shut- ins. Easter music was sung with the Junior and Senior Choir doing Anthems. PEOPLE WE KNOW Visiting on Easter Sunday with Ray and Margery Huether were Derek Dean, now of Elmvale, near Barrie, and John Huether of Goderich. Sandra Sholdice, Stratford and Murray Sholdice, k,ondon, spent the Easter weekend at the home of their mother, Dorothy Sholdice. WALTON II UNIT Walton II unit of .the United Church women held their Easter meeting at the home of Margaret Craig, Wednesday even- ing, April 11. Helen Craig and Marilyn McDonald led in the devotions and took the story of Pilates wife and 'Mary, giving their thoughts what was going on at the crucifix- ion, making it a very interesting topic for the Easter season. Maxine took over for the business, repor- ting on the work that was done in the kit- chen, and asked for cookies for Saturday night and Conference. Also baking is re- quired, for the Daffodil Tea this Saturday at the church from 2 to 4 p.m. Another luncheon was announced for the Blyth Festival, a wedding for September 22 and 125th anniversary of Duff's Church, September 23. Bale to be packed around May 15. Copper Contest money was col- lected. Meeting closed with lunch and a social time. Ch rich to start support group ]F ensali Correspondent SUSAN HARTMAN 262-2449 Easter Sunday morning was a busy one at the Hensall United Church. The day started with the Easter Sunrise Service at 7 a.m. This service was conducted by the Intermediate and Senior Sunday School Classes. After the service about 111, of the congregation enjoyed a delicious breakfast put on by the Worship Committee of the Official; Board, The regular 8 a.m. service was begun with a beautiful anthem sung by the choir proclaiming that Jesus has indeed risen. It was an impressive opening. During the "Children's Time", Rev. Wright talked with the children about Easter eggs and with the help of his finger puppets told of what could be put in an empty one to illustrate that Easter means new life. Rev. Wright's sermon was entitled "An Easter Faith" and dealt with need for Easter to have a meaningful and real im- pact on our lives today in 1990. Doug Mock read the scripture lessons and the choir sang "Come Ye Faithful". Vacation Bible School will run on the mornings of July 2 to 6. Last year this highly successful program attracted 72 children. Teachers and helpers are needed. If you can help, please call Bev Bell at 263-5579. A Mother's Support Group meets at the church Wednesday mornings. HISTORICAL SOCIETY The Huron County Historical Society will hold a general meeting on Wednesday, April 18 at 8 p.m. at the Blyth Legion Hall. Alison Lobb will speak on the history of Huron County Cemeteries. Everyone is welcome to attend this meeting. FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE The Friendship Circle met Monday, April 1 at 8 p.m. and enjoyed a film and talk on leprosy by Bob McFarlane from the Presbyterian Church now offers nursery BY MINNIE NOAKES On every side great nature retells the Easter story. So who am I to question "the Resurrection Glory." The Carmel Presbyterian Church was filled with beautiful music on Easter Sun- day. It was played by Carolyn Love at the organ and Edith Bell at the piano. Follow- ing the prelude Rev. Mark issued the call to worship, gave a responsive reading and sanctus was sung. Hymns of praise, con- fession and assurance of pardon preceded the children's hymn. The cnoir sang a very fitting Easter anthem. The homily by Rev. Mark was very in- teresting and thought-provoking. Respon- sive reading was pertaining to the theme "Christ is Risen". The announcements were: the Kirk Ses- sions thanked the P.C.W. for the Easter lilies which were in the sanctuary; on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Rev. Mark will be moderating the Knox Bayfield Session. A nursery for preschool children is now available at the Carmel service. Leprosy Mission Canada. A loose offering was presented to Mr. McFarlane for his organization. Next, month, the ladies will have`a joint meeting with the Egplorers, starting with a pot luck dinner at 6 p.m. on May 7. After the business the ladles en- joyed some dessert, tea, and fellowship.
