Citizens' group researches housing If you're among the working poor, or are a single mother, senior, physically disabl- ed, or young person living away from home, chances are you are among the peo- ple that need affordable and accessible housing in Huron County. That's what a 1987 municipal housing study concluded, and that's what a citizens' group is hoping to flesh out through their own research study. The Huron County Access to Permanent Housing Committee was formed about a year ago by representatives of concerned groups. Most committee members come from within the county, and meet regularly in Goderich. Their research project is designed to give details about who is in need of affordable/accessible housing, where this housing is needed, and what kind of housing is required. The heart of the study is a questionnaire. Items on the questionnaire are detailed, but can be the basis of an application for future non-profit housing by those who fill them out. Respondents can also choose to remain anonymous. The committee expects that, as a result of the research study, they will be able to apply for funding for non-profit housing for Huron County within the next two or three years. A business reply envelope is provided so that those who respond can simply put their com- pleted questionnaire pes in the mail. Thcommittee ho individuals and families ithn Huron Cout maof nty who have difficulty finding affordable/ac- cessible housing will fill out the question- naire. The larger the number of people who express a need for affordable/accessi- ble housing, the more compelling will be the information gathered. The committee can then apply to the Ministry of Housing for funding for non-profit housing. Access to Permanent Housing Commit- tess are based in towns like Stratford and London, and have successfully lobbied for non-profit housing for those areas. The Huron County comtnittee hopes for the same outcome as a result of their current research project. Copies of the questionnaire can be ob- tained by contacting the committee at 519-524.5333 or 1-800-265-5586. Two charged in spot check The Seaforth Police Department and the Goderich detachment of the Ontario Pro- vincial Police, concerned about the ac- cidents in the area in recent weeks, com- bined efforts to stage a spot check Friday and Saturday night. It occurred when a car pulled off the Sunoco lot, and rear ended another car that was in Inc at the lights.
