Novice 2 ringette edged by one
The Seaforth Novice 2 Ringette team
opened play-offs on Sunday, March 4 with
an 8-7 loss" to St. Marys. Seaforth, who
finished first in regular league play,
received a bye into the second round of the
play-offs while St. Marys, who placed
third, advanced to the second round by
defeating Seaforth 1 in a closely fought
series.
At the end of the first period, St. Marys
led 4-2 with both Seaforth goals having
been netted by Melissa Robertson, assisted
by Julianne Crowley and Tricia Jansen.
At the break between periods, goalie
Karen Delvecchio had to leave the game
due to illness and was replaced in the net

by Katie Holland. This seemed to be the
spark the girls needed as both offensive
and defensive players seemed to bear
down.
The second period was a thrilling one
with Seaforth fighting to keep the score
close. Cathy Coyne scored Seaforth's third
goal unassisted with Melissa. Robertson ad-
ding one on an assist by Jenny Delvecchio,
one unassisted and another on an assist by
Michelle Tyndall. Finally with only three
minutes left, Melissa scored her sixth goal
of the night, assisted by Cathy Coyne, to
tie the score at 7-7. St. Mary's battled back
one more time and won this opening game.
A special "pat on the back" goes to
Katie Holland for filling in as goalie.

On Saturday, March 3 the Seaforth
Atoms took a break from the playoffs and
travelled to New Hamburg for a one day
tournament.
The first game of the day was against
Tavistock. It turned out to be a close game
with Seaforth winning by just one goal.
Luckily Charles Robertson was sharp in
net or the final score might have been a
lot different. Seaforth started the scoring
when Jered Munro intercepted a pass at
the Tavistock blue line and passed it over
the Shaun Anstett who tucked it neatly into
the net.
In the second period Shaun „Anstett

Peewee "CC"s
The Seaforth Peewee "CC"s lost three
players to injuries this past week, but still
came out on top, winning the OMHA
quarter finals against Exeter three games
to one. They will now sit idle until
Tavistock or Oshweken decide a winner of
their series. The wait will give them time
to healand rest up and prepare to take
the next series of the OMHA playoffs.
Exeter hosted the first playoff game on
February 28. Seaforth blew through Exeter
defense in 40 seconds, when Mike
Devereaux took the honor of scoring
Seaforth's first goal in the first period.
Mike Weber dug the puck out along the
boards, passed it to Boyd Devereaux who
set up his brother. Seaforth's defense pit-
ched in for Seaforth's second goal when
Brad Moore flipped the puck to Mike
Devereaux who set up Boyd Devereaux,
who scored on a deke. At the seven minute
mark goalie Adam Agar stopped a flurry
of shots, denying Exeter a goal. Mike Watt
won the face off and set up Mike Weber
who chalked up number three for Seaforth.
Late in the period Exeter got on the
scoreboard when the center pulled
Seaforth's goalie out and backhanded in
number one for Exeter.
Only 10 seconds into the second period
Seaforth's Mike Devereaux backhanded a
pass from Boyd Devereaux into Exeter's
net for the fourth goal. Watt and Weber
tallied up the fifth goal for Seaforth
minutes later. Boyd Devereaux picked up
number six for Seaforth, assisted by Mike
Weber and Mike Devereaux. Exeter got its
second goal when the puck was deflected
over Seaforth goalie Chad Lamont. Ex-
eter's third goal came when a scramble
occurred in front of Seaforth's net and
couldn't be cleared.
Exeter scored its fourth goal during a
two on one situation early in the third
period. At the 6:20 mark of the period
Seaforth goalie Chad Lamont stopped an

GAME TWO
Exeter put pressure on in the first
minute of the second game, but Mike Watt
took control of the puck when he beat an
Exeter defenseman in the corner and, slip-
ped it to Jamie McNichol who started
Seaforth's scoring. Mike Weber, in the slot,
scored Seaforth's second goal when Boyd
Devereaux flipped the puck to him from
behind Exeter's net. Boyd Devereaux

and got it to Mike Watt who backhanded
Seaforth's third goal in.
11 Seaforth had control over the first
period then the same has to be said for
Exeter in the second. Exeter revved up
early in the second and came barrelling
down the ice with a three on two situation.
The open winger was given the puck as
they closed in on Seaforth's net and Ex-
eter's first goal was scored. Steve Mclnally
stopped a breakway at the 11 minute
mark, diving for the puck and knocking it
off the Exeter player's stick into the cor-
