Seaforth, Exeter split games
Now that the Seaforth Atoms have cap-
tured the WOAA title, they enter the
quarter finals of the OMHA against
Exeter.
On Friday night the two teams met for
the first game in the best of five series.
Exeter came out strong, scoring their fust
goal after only 18 seconds of play. Seaforth
returned the favor 16 seconds later on a
pass from Pat Gridzak on the point to
Chris Marion. Seaforth took the lead near
the end of the first period. Shaun Anstett
carried the puck from behind the Seaforth
net all the way down to the Exeter -goal.
He passed it over the goalie's shoulder.
Eleven seconds later another pass from the
point, this time from Jered Munro,
resulted in a goal. Chris Marion once again
slid the puck home from his favourite spot
in front of the net.
Exeter came back with a goal in the se-
cond period after drawing the defence out
of position, leaving their sniper alone in
the slot. Scott Wood had to be sharp on
several goal -mouth scrambles but he shut
the door on Exeter from that point on.
Seaforth scored the only goal of the third
period on a beautiful pass from Chris
Marion to a waiting Brandon Nash on the
far side of the net. He made no mistake as
he banged it home.
The final score was Seaforth 4 - Exeter
2.
The second game of the series was in
Exeter on Sunday afternoon, February 25.
Exeter showed from the first face-off that
they were determined to even the score at
one game a piece.
In the first and second periods Exeter
scored five unanswered goals. Seaforth's
first goal was scored on a power play mid-
way through the second period. Pat Grid-
zak shot from the point. In the scramble
Chris Marion and Jason Smith both at-
tempted to score. It was Jason who suc-
ceeded in flipping the puck over the
sprawling goalie. Although Seaforth had
many other excellent chances; lady luck
was not on our side.At the end of the se-
cond period the score was Exeter 5 -
Seaforth 1.
After the pep talk, the boys Came out a
Attie stronger in the third period. With 1
1/2 minutes of play behind them, Mark
Van Dooren drove the puck back to Brent
Hadley at the point who let a hard shot go.
Chris Marion beside the net poked . the
puck in beside the goal post. Six minutes
later Mark Van Dooren passed the puck
over to Chris Marion. Chris was hauled
down at the blue line. Jason Smith picked
up the loose puck on the delayed penalty
call, took it in the rest of the way and
found the mark.
Scott Wood was called to the bench with
two minutes• left to play in the game. With
six attackers Seaforth attempted to add to
the scoreboard but an Exeter player got
hold of the puck and let go a hard shot
that went the length of the ice and into the
empty net.
That was the end of Seaforth's hopes and
the game ended with the score Exeter 6
and Seaforth 3; The next game is at home
on Tuesday night. We'll need everyone
playing their best that night now that Ex-
eter has had a taste of victory!

Van dorren sends Novice hockey team to semi final series
Seaforth's Novice hockey team had Period three was far more interesting as
playoffs on their mind all week as games Matt Smith scored proving Clinton hadn't
two.and three of a best of five series were left the building. Enter J.D. Nolan once
on tap. again, making it 5-1. With Nolan getting
his shooting eye on track again means
trouble for the opposition,
A Thursday night visit to Clinton hoping
to take a commanding 2-0 series lead had
the boys prepped for game two. Seaforth
dominated early and finally hit pay dirt
three minutes in when Ryan Van Dooren
and Derek Nesbitt worked the puck to
Scott Van Dooren who clicked, making it
1-0. This was Scott's first of what was to
be many hi the two games. Before period
one was over Scott V. had made it 2-0 on
a breakaway.
Period two saw more of the same with
Seaforth going on top 4-0 with Scott -V.
finishing his hat trick and J.D. Nolan click -
mg just to show Clinton there was more
than one weapon in Seaforth's arsenal.
Jon Miller replies for Clinton only to be
ambushed by Seaforth three more times.
Scott V. counted the first two with Jason
Hulley and Nolan assisting on the first one.
The third came off the stick of Derek
Nesbitt as he cashed in on a rebound of a
Ryan V. shot and the score was 8-2. Clin-
ton got one more and game two was
history.
Game three appeared to be in doubt due
to weather as Mother nature had a storm
brewing. But the storm subsided and the
game was on. Things didn't look promising
for Clinton, indicative by the broom that
leaned ominously against the Clinton dress-
ing room. Signs of a sweep were all in
place, or had the arena staff forgotten
where they had last swept? •
With period one doing nothing to decide
the outcome Clinton took advantage of a
couple Seaforth miscues to go on top 2-0.
Before the teams changed ends Scott V.
halved the lead.
Period three belonged to Scott V. and the
Seaforth side as the final fifteen minutes
added credibility to that broom's presence.
A 3-1 edge in the third gave Seaforth a 4-3
win with Scott Van Dooren having a big
night.
With Clinton now out of the way the boys
must change directions and head east to
face arch -rival Mitchell,' who destroyed
Palmerston with a couple of 9-1 thrashings.
With no dates yet set up please stay tan -
ed for the Novice team's next action.
