It was a lonely night at the other end for
Steven and Sean but they knew the next
night their services would be in great
demand.
Friday night in Clinton Seaforth ran in-
to a much improved sixtet. The boys were
up and down (the ice) more often then the
Canadian dollar is on the world money
market. But as luck would have it, the
dollar finished with a surge on Friday as
did the Novice crew.
For two periods Seaforth's Sean Ludwig
and Clinton's Matt Steenstra had
everything their own way, as the two
teams headed for the dressing room tied at
zero.
Steven Phillips took over between the
pipes in thethird and to his dismay a a
defensive struggle turned into a wide open
shoot out. Between 9:13 and 2:06 the teams
found time to score four goals apiece. Scott
V. (who was somehow omitted from the
Gold Puck Allstar Team) started the
scorearama with brother Ryan doing the
spade work. The tearn'ktook 3:14 off before
59 seconds of the wildest hockey you'll
ever see began. Craig Miller drew Clinton
even at 5:59 and Berton Dykstra from Jon
Miller and Pat Culligan at 5:42 gave the
host a 2-1 lead. Scott VanDooren took just
nine seconds to give Seaforth a 3-2 edge
with goals at 5:09 and 5:00.
Clinton roared back as J. Miller and B.
Dykstra scored 50 seconds apart to restore
a one goal lead.
Not to be outdone Seaforth jumped back
on the offense and less than a minute later
the scoreboard had levelled itself out once
again. The equalizer came via the red hot
threesome lead by Scott V who is flanked
by Ryan V and Derek N. On this goal it
was the VanDooren's hard work ending up
on Nesbitt's stick. Nesbitt one -timed it past
a busy and beleaguered Matt Steenstra.
When "hot" was mentioned we didn't say
to what degree but for example, of
Seaforth's 19 goals in the past three games
Scott V (9 goals, 3 assists), Ryan V (1 g.
6 a.), Derek N (3 g. 3 a.)
Saturday in Wingham the boys played
their final league game and in the process
had a little fun as eight different players
did the scoring. This game was full of
good signs as the boys head for the
playoffs. With some line shuffling in the
third, as the defensemen played forward
and the two Scott's played defence in an
attempt to get everyone a goal.
A sure sign of good things to come in
the playoffs saw the trio of Scott Hender-
son (,ggoals, 1 assist), J.D. Nolan (2 g. 3
a.) and Jason Hulley (1 g. 3 a) have a big
night, while Adam Leonhardt (1 goal),
Mark Vock (2 assists) and Jared Car-
nochan were involved in three goals.
This 11-0 victory featured a patented
Bobby Orr style goal by Len Murray to
open the scoring. The second goal was a
beauty as Mark Vock dug a loose puck out
from behind the net, looked in front where
he found Mike Murray coming down the
slot. Vock's pass found its mark and Mike
continued in to blow a wrist shot by the
goalie before he could get set. It was
Mike's first of the year and what a beauty.
Seaforth's other two goals in this 11-0
romp saw Scott Van Dooren and Derek
Nesbitt extend their goal scoring streaks to
four games.
Steven Phillips picked up the shutout in
the romp as he stopped every shot that
came his way, and Ryan Van Dooren put
it best late in the third when he said "Ya
- both of them"
Seaforth will begin the playoffs at home
Sunday February 18 at 4 p.m. vs. Clinton.
But before that the boys will entertain fans
Friday, February 16 at 8:15 p.m. when
they host Exeter in exhibition action. If
you want and like action — be there.

league Saturday morning teams and thank
you for volunteering your time for the
boys.
As this is my first year as president of
Minor Hockey, I was completely astonish-
ed at the amount of time involved to run
hockey. I know that I have made many
mistakes but with the great support of the
many volunteers, this has been a very
good year for S.D.M.H. Please remember
that our annual meeting is coming up soon
and it is a good time to air problems in
the system and see how minor hockey is
run. At last year's meeting there were only
eight other people beside the executive
there and not enough volunteers, which is
terible seeing there are 180 boys in hockey
in Seaforth District Minor Hockey. Please
come out and support our minor system.
More hands make less work!
Maureen Agar
President of S.D.M.H.
P.S. Remember boys you can't score
goals from the penalty box.
