Birthday Greetings were also in order Friday for Hazel McGonigle celebrating her birthday. Eisler, Brasseur take bronze Seaforth native Lloyd Eisler, and his partner Isabelle Brasseur, were unable to defend their Canadian Figure Skating Senior Pairs title during the 1990 competi- tion last week in Sudbury. Eisler and Brasseur had to settle for bronze this year after a relatively poor free -skating display Thursday night, which included two falls by Brasseur. Cindy Landry and Lyndon Johnston, whom Eisler and Brasseur edged last year for the title, were the victors this year, with Christine Hough and Doug Ladret finishing second. "I don't really know what happened," said Eisler, "Maybe we were thinking too far ahead to Halifax (and the world championship) and let our guard down." 1 11 k - the Riders were Rick Fowler, Jim Bertson and Robert McGregor, with assistance from Rick Harris, Dick Robinson and Ed Van Miltenburg. The Dumpers lone goal was scored by defenceman Dennis Murray, assisted by Murray Houston and Frank Verberne. RAIDERS 1 - WIINIl'HR I P 2 Two tough teams played but Winthrop pulled into the lead as Bruce Pearn and Fred McClure scored a goal each off pass- ing by Bill Shortreed and Jim Scott. For the Raiders Ray Hinz scored a go: ,, thank- ing Jeff Campbell and Jack Holmes for their help. In the Men's Broomball on February 15 at 8 p.m. Red Rustlers vs Winthrop; 8:50 p.m. Grads vs Easy Riders; 9:40 p.m. Raiders vs Parr Line; and 10:30 p.m. Knights vs Dumpers. Royals sit out. Despite their third plade finish in the Canadian Championships, Eisler and Brasseur have however, qualified to com- pete in the World Championships, to be held in Halifax next month. Canada is able to send three pairs to the worlds because Landry and Johnston were se- cond at the 1989 worlds in Paris. In the meantime though, Eisler and Brasseur will participate in a a skating carnival being held in New Hamburg on Saturday, February 24. Environment Ontario's Permit to Take Water Program requires corporations and individuals taking more than 50,000 litres of water per day from streams, rivers, lakes, ponds, reservoirs or groundwater sources to obtain a permit in accordance with the Ontario Water Resources Act, Under a two-year pilot project, administration of the Permit to Take Water Program will be transferred to several conser- vation authorities. This pilot project will determine the feasi- bility of transferring program administration to all conservation authorities. Only the administration of surface water takings will be transferred to the conservation authorities, while administra- tion of takings from groundwater sources will remain with Environment Ontario. Effective March 1, 1990, matters relating to surface water permits should be referred to your local conservation authority.
