Hid you know that ten per cent of Cana-
dians can't read the directions of a jar of
cough syrup? Or that 50 per cent cannot
locate a shop in the yellow pages?
i Illiteracy is a major obstacle and the
best way to prevent a new generation of
ignorance is to encourage a love of reading
in young people.
With tits goal in mind volunteers are
needed to share one hour per week with a
child. Anyone interested in participating in
a Hensall "Reading Circle" please call
Joanne Rowdiffe or Susan Hartman. Let's
help to make reading and a love of books
a joy and not a chore to young people.
There is an excellent article on Literacy
in the January 1990 edition of Canadian
Living Magazine.
