Seaforth Novic
Seaforth's Novice I Ringette Team par-
ticipated in the Stratford Tournament held
.January 10.14/1990.
These girls, aged six to nine years of
age had an early rise Saturday January 13
as their first game was at 8 a.m. against
a team from London. Although early 'in the
morning, everyone put forward their best
effort and. Seaforth won this game 11-3.
Unfortunately, the official game report has
been misplaced and the list of scorers is
not available. However, it must be noted
that Marsha Denys scored her first two
goals ever in this game. Kelly Murray was
a standout in this, game in turning away
many London shots. The red sticks played
an outstanding game defensively.
The second game of the tournament saw
Seaforth play Stratford at 5 p.m. on Satur-
day. Scoring for Seaforth were, Abby Dietz
with two goals, and Denis DeJong with two
goals. Singles went to Cathy Coyne,
Melissa Robertson and Denise O'Reilly.
Although the final score was 7-2 in favor
of Seaforth, the game was actually quite
close and these two teams were evenly
matched. Nicole . Munroe, Jessica
Finlayson, Melissa Etere and Melissa
Robertson played a strong game of defense
and were instrumental in setting up the
scoring plays.
The third game of this round robin tour-
nament pitted Seaforth against unbeaten

In the final week of the regular season
the Guttercats take on the Wildcats which
will likely decide the winner of the coveted
e1 runners up
Hamilton. Hamilton had previously beaten
London 20-0 and Stratford 23-0: The
Seaforth girls were aware that they'd have
to come up big. This game was a mean-
ingless game as far as standings were con-
cerned. By virtue of two previous wins by
both Hamilton and Seaforth, both were
guaranteed a berth in the final.
Again. the girls had an early rise as this
game was at 7:30 a.m. Hamilton certain-
ly went quickly to work and defeated
Seaforth 13-0. The final game, which as
tournament organizers stated, was perhaps
the most exciting game of the entire tour-
nament. Many teams would be deflated
following a thorough thumping as was the
case in the first game against Hamilton.
However, the defeat in the early morning
only resulted in the Seaforth girls wanting
revenge and as a result, the played with
the enthusiasm and finesse of -a team
possessed. Every player played at or
above the level they had ever played at
before.
The score was 4-0 for Seaforth before the
10 minute mark of the first period.
Scoring goals for Seaforth were Melissa
Robertson, assisted by Cathy Coyne and
Abby Dietz. Abby Dietz scored 36 seconds
later assisted by Denise O'Reilly, Katie
Murray scored from a screened position
unassisted. Abby Dietz scored again
assisted by Denise O'Reilly and Melissa
Robertson.

Thanks to Katie Craig for being so faithful
to the team and joining us. (Better late
than never, eh Katie!)
In a previous encounter with Stratford
the Seaforth team was beaten 6-3. However
Seaforth girls determined to show their
stuff this time around and played their
hearts out. They turned the table on
onto one goal lead
Stratford by deteaLung them 6-3. (By the
way Stratford had 13 players). Andrea
again played an excellent game in net, be-
ing there when she was needed, as was
each and every girl on the team.

with four goals and two assists. Robyn
Carnochan had one goal and one assist and

Steve Eckert for the pass. Parr Line men
never seemed to get a break.

Both of these team players were going
strong but the goalies held each team to a
zip zip game. Excellent game guys.

from Tony Van Den Heuvel. Gary Dill
shoots from the face off and blows it by
the goalie, assisted by Mike Van Der)
