Seniors brave
weather for Friday
bowling matches
Twenty-six seniors did not let the stormy
weather keep them at home on Friday
afternobh.
Bert Walters bowled his highest single of
the season with a 265 single and 614 triple.
Charlie Perkins also had a 247 sillgle and
601 triple. For the ladies Mary Finlayson
came up with a 278 single and 650 triple.
Anne Syood also had a 233 single and 579
triple.
There was some very competitive bowl-
ing on lanes five and six with the Flames
taking five points from the Bruins. They
missed you Watson. The Kings won from
the Jets and the Oilers took five points
from the Leafs. Lucky winners in the draw
were Lloyd Pipe, Campbell Wey and Bert
Walters.
Another of the bowlers had the misfor-
tune to fall last Friday. Betty Hulley slip-
ped on ice and fractured her hip. She is
presently in Stratford General Hospital and
the league wants her to know she will be
missed. Everyone wishes her a speedy
recovery.

Seaforth Novice
The Seaforth Novice hockey team had
the light schedule this week, with only one
game being played, and a second postpon-
ed to a later date due to the weather.
With Thursday night's game in Clinton
wiped out by snow, Saturday's game
against Milverton was the only chance the
local boys had to show their stuff. And by
suppertime Saturday Milverton goalie Cory
Nagy wished Scott Van Dooren would have
chosen another time to showcase his
talents.
Scott started the scoring just 1:22
minutes into the game, with brother Ryan
assisting. Five minutes later he struck
again, once again with Ryan helping out,
along with Derek Nesbitt. Nesbitt recent-
ly traded left wing chores with Mark Vock
who now patrols the port side for Adam
Leonhardt and Jared Carnochan.
The second period almost made it into
the books with nothing to record, but Scott
Van Dooren finished his first hat trick with
only eight seconds to go.
Milverton wastn't about to roll over and
play dead however, and came out frying in
the third stanza. Before the period was
three minutes old, Nick Williamson and
Jamie Gibb made the score 3-2. At 11:18
Rose Feeney took both the ladies high
single at 266 and the triple at 627.
The Men's high single went to Don Nolan
285 and triple to Todd Caldwell -717.
HIGH -LOW TOURNAMENT
This week marked the start of another
High -Low Tournament within the St.
James League.
After the lst week of play, only three
couples were eliminated. Leading the way
were Jack Ryan and Rod McEwin plus
152; Todd Caldwell and Nicolette Spencer
plus 82; George Love and Janet Ferraz
plus 70; Karen Hoegy and Bert Kloss plus
61; Rob Taylor and Pat Ryan plus 53;
Janice Morris and Francis Feeney plus 49;
Dave Moody and Johanna Goodman plus
46; Pat Nolan and Wade Lee plus 29; Rose
]Feeney and Cheryl Campbell plus 29; Don
Nolan and Gloria Love plus 10; Cathy
Broome and Glenda Feeney plus 4; Carol
Johnston and Sandra Taylor plus 2.
Team Standings are; Kangaroos - 61,
Pythons - 58, Monkeys - 53 Tigers - 51,
Leopards - 47 and Coons - 44.

McUiwain, faring
well wif.h' , Jets
Seaforth native Rabid McElwain is far-
ing well in the National Hockey League
since being traded to the Winnipeg Jets
prior to this season, from the Pittsburgh
Penguins. In fact, he's doing great.
McElwain just came off a six point
weekend. He scored two goals against St.
Louis on Sunday, and set up the game
winner, and on Friday racked up three
assists.
The six points bring McElwain to a
point total of 28 (14 goals and 14 assists),
and put him in fifth place on his team in
terms of point totals. Steen leads the
team with 51 points, Elynuik is second
with 41, Hawerchuk is third with 38, and
Small is fourth with 30.
Five of McLlwain's goals however,
have been scored while the Jets have
been serving a penalty, and make
McUwain the league leader in shorthand-
ed goals. Mcllwain has played an impor-
tant role in penalty -killing for Winnipeg,
who is first overall in that department in
the national hockey league.
Ringette Juniors
continue winning
The Seaforth Juniors continued their win-
ning ringette streak in the new, year by
defeating Goderich last Monday in
Goderich by a score of 7-4.
At the end of the first period Seaforth
lead 4-1. In the second period each team
played equally as they scored three apiece.
Scoring were Cheryl McLlwain - 3;
Janice Rodney - 2; and Melody Turner and
Kerry McMillan each with one.
Picking up assists were Janice Rodney -
3; Jodie Hugill - 1; Julie Carter - 1;
Melody Turner - 1; and Robyn Carnochan
- 1.
The next home game is Friday against
Mitchell at 7:15 p.m.
record 3-3 Milverton
Mike Murray sent Scott Henderson away
with a nice pass and Seaforth had some
breathing room. Midway through the
period the brother act of Scott and Ryan
doubled the lead with goals 30 seconds
apart.
Tim Shultz showed that Milverton still
had some wind in their sails, by making it
6-3. But whatever breeze was left, Scott
Van Dooren stole as he cut a couple paths
through the Milverton defenders on his
victory
way to his double hat flack, and a comfor-
table 8-3 victory for Seaforth.
This weekend Seaforth hosts St. Marys
for a rematch of an early season exhibition
contest. The game will follow the Atom
tournament Saturday at 7 p.m.
The Novice are preparing for the Golden
Puck Tournament to be held January 27-29,
but have yet to confirm game times or
dates.
Novice II ringette rally falls short
On Sunday night the Seaforth Novice II
ringette team travelled to St. Marys to
play a much improved St. Mary's team.
Melissa Robertson opened the scoring at
4:46 of the first period but then St. Mary's
took over and by the end of the penon
they led 3-1. They added two more goals
early in the second period to take 5-1 lead
before Cheryl Workman scored to narrow
the gap to 5-2.
St. Marys got two more goals and built
what seemed to be an insurmountable 7-2
lead but the local girls wouldn't quit and
made the game interesting. Cathy Coyne
scored three times for Seaforth and Ken-
dall Schenck added another and with two
minutes left it was 7-6 St. Marys.
However, it just wasn't going to be
Seaforth's game with St. Mary's scoring in
the last minute to ice the 8-6 win. As
always, the Seaforth girls made the game
interesting and exciting as they came back
with a determined effort to nearly pull off
another victory. Good comeback girls.
