Mike Watt, on his first shift back from a 'broken collar bone, stick handledthe puck peat Chatham's defence and passed it to Mike Weber who scored number two for Seaforth. On a Seaforth power play Wayne Schoonderwoerd shot the puck through everyone even Chatham's goalie to rack up number three for Seaforth. Mike Devereaux and Steve Mclnally assisted. In the second period Jamie McNichol got the puck from the face-off to Mike Watt, who carried it around Chatham's defense and scored number four for Seaforth. Chatham finally made it on the scoreboard with a hard shot from the blue line which was tipped in. The Boyd and Mike Devereaux and Mike Hugill line were credited with two more goals in the third period to finish off the scoring 6 - 1 against Chatham. GAME FIVE St. Mary's was the B-1 champs at Wat- ford Silver Stick and therefore had to play Seaforth in the semi-finals. Mike Moylan started Seaforth off with a tip -in from a pass from the Devereaux brother for goal number one. Then Mike Moylan set up Mike Watt, who blew a shot past St. Mary's goalie for Seaforth's second goal. Seaforth displayed some excellent fore checking for the appreciative fans. In the second period Steve Mclnally picked up a weak pass by St. Mary's to set up Mike Devereaux who broke in and gave the goalie for St. Mary's another puck to dig out of his net. Mike Watt scored the fourth goal with the help of Mike Moylan and Mike Weber. The three Mike's did it again later. in the second to make the score 5 - 0 for Seaforth. Jamie McNichol scored number six in the third period from the slot after Mike Watt passed the puck to Mike Weber who set up the waiting Jamie. St. Mary's broke in at the last minute mark to score their one and only goal. Mike Hugill kept St. Marv's goalie busv when he flipped in number seven for Seaforth from Mike and Boyd Devereaux. Mike Weber got the last goal to round off Seaforth to 8 - 1 win assisted by Mike Watt and Jamie McNichol. On to the championship GAME SIX Ilderton was the B-3 champs at this Silver Stick therefore playing Seaforth B-2 champs, for the right to advance to Port Huron. Ilderton came out strong in the first minutes of the game and scored their only goal on Adam Agar from the slot at the 7:00 minute mark. Wayne Schoonder- woerd at the point, set up Boyd Devereaux, who slid the puck past rider - ton's defense to brother Mike who tied the score at one. Boyd Devereaux set up a pretty goal(rtumber two for Seaforth)when he broke through at the red line and gave Mike Hugill the honor of scoring the win- ning goal. Mike Hugill, returning the favor, back -handed the puck from the corner to Boyd Devereaux who, fought the defense and got it to Mike Devereaux to score the third and insurance goal. The clock hard- ly stopped throughout this fast -paced game which lasted barely one hour. The ice was wet and sticking in the third period especially close to the boards where Bf®OnGI)C980 • from page 10A score to a nil -nil match. A quick gaine by both teams. RED RUSTLERS 1 - PARR LINE 1 Paul Gdbbings scored a quick wrist shot from a pass by Craig Piet and Peter DeJong. Zooming in, Art Vienstra lifted the ball into the net, thanking Robert Anderson and Ralph Nivins for a great pass. Parr Line men played great but the Rustlers went overboard and played super broomball for a great comeback and tied the game up. DUMPERS 3 - RAIDERS 0 Rick Archambault scored two blazing goals with a little help from Don Hender- son and Bob Henderson. Dale Kennedy contributed with a lone goal with assistance from Bill Dale and Tony Arts. The Raiders' goalie Glenn McLean played a great game and his fellow players did also. A breath taking finish to a good game. Seaforth PeeWee "CC" win 3 -'1 and bring home the Regional Silver Stick. Champion banner. Coaches Bill Weber and Jim Moore sent the defense and g0altender up to receive the banner -and excellent choice as the defensive squads of most teams are often the unsung heroes of many games. Congratulations to M!re.Devereaux who won the trophy for the best PeeWee at the tournament. After going to Watford for five days the concensus of the Seaforth team is "a nice place to visit but we don't want to go there again!" A. a breather from tournaments the Seaforth PeeWee "CC" played a regulation game against Goderich on Tuesday, January 2. To make a long story short, Seaforth won the game 11 - 5. OTHER ACTION The strength of the Seaforth Minor hockey. system was evident on Saturday, January 6 when the Seaforth PeeWee "CC", plagued with another injury, used its horizontal affiliation power to use five players of the Seaforth PeeWee "DDs" for the Legion District Tournament. Arthur was the first team to challenge Seaforth. There was lots of hard, hitting skating throughout the first period. Scoring didn't start until 2:56 of the second period when Mike Watt blasted the puck from the Arthur blue line, not giving the Arthur goalie a chance to react. Arthur tied the score late in the period when the puck wasn't cleared from Seaforth's zone. Goalie Adam Agar made an initial save but the rebound was flipped in. The third period started with Mike Watt flying around Arthur's net and slipping the puck through the fifth hole of the goalie for Seaforth's number two goal. The game was tied up when a face-off to the right of the Seaforth net sent the puck to the opposite corner and an Arthur player stuck his stick out, defecting it in. Mike Watt pick- ed up the hat trick when Jeff Flanagan played the puck to him as he came out of the penalty box and blasted in number three for Seaforth. Unfortunately, in the last 10 seconds of the game there was a scramble in front of Seaforth net, with a lot of pushing and shoving, allowing Arthur to tie the game with one second left. In the five minute sudden death overtime Steve Mclnally made a great defensive play stopping a three on two at Seaforth's blue line. Seconds later Mike Devereaux jumped over the boards and picked the pass up at Arthur's blue line, stick handl- ed past the defence and scored the winn- ing goal. Score 4 - 3 and advancement for Seaforth. Seaforth controlled the play throughout the second game of the tournament against passing by Brenda Empy. Teresa Finlayson sprang into the new year with two dynamite goals, assisted by Marg Henderson. Lisa Henderson's New Year's Resolution was to score goals and that she did with a little help from Jean Hag- gitt. The Commercial Ladies kept up a steady pace but could not contribute. PARR LINE 3 - PERTH 0 Sandi Fremlin shot and scored, a great pass by Sueanne Van Miltenburg. Defenceman Heidi Elliott followed through with her strong backhand swing and scored on a pass from Joan Hender- son. Glenda Chaput dug hard and was finally rewarded with a goal, with help from Susan Hulley. Perth ladies put up a good fight to the end, a great game by all. WINTHROP 0 - JR. FARMERS 0 A very quiet game to watch as there was not an overabundance of energy on either team. There were a few whistles blown by the referees, but only to give the timekeeper wake up calls. Hopefully, there will be more enthusiasm next week! Ladies Broomball Jan. 10/90: 8:00 p.m. Perth vs Winthrop; 8:50 p.m. Parr Line vs Commercial; 9:40 p.m. Queens vs Jr. Farmers. Elora. Elora put some pressure on but goalie Chad Lamont held tight to the puck destroying any chance of Elora getting on the scoreboard. Mdse Hugill scored number four goal for Seaforth with the help of Jeff Flanagan and Boyd Devereaux. Seaforth had numerous shots on Elora during the third period. Mike Watt finished off the scoring for Seaforth when Dean. Finnigan passed the puck to Jamie McNichol, who set up the fifth goal. Final score 5 - 0 for Seaforth. FINAL GAME The final game of the tournament pitted the Seaforth PeeWee "CC" against Listowel. It was guaranteed to be a nail biting game and no one left. Mike Devereaux started the ball rolling when he won the puck during a scrimmage in the corner and set up brother Boyd for Seaforth's first goal. Defenceman Wayne Schoonderwoerd defeated the Listowel winger in the corner fouling up a chance by Listowel to tie the game. Seaforth took a 2 - 0 lead when Boyd Devereaux pumped in a rebound after Mike Hugill shot point blanks at Listowel's goalie. The second period was end-to-end hockey with both teams showing off their checking abilities. Late in the period Listowel's winger came down and blasted a shot from the blue line scoring their first goal. Mike Devereaux scored Seaforth's third goal when he intercepted a pass at Listowel's blue line as he was jumping off the bench, and carried the puck to the cor- ner of the net slipping it in. Brother Boyd gave Seaforth a 4 - 1 lead when he scored from Mike Devereaux's corner pass. Listowel, an excellent team too, pulled all stops out and started play- ing some excellent, challenging hockey. They narrowed the score to two with a hard screened shot from the point at the z, five minute mark of the third on a breakaway two minutes later, the Seaforth defence couldn't catch up and goalie Adam Agar charged out to deflect the puck but could get only a piece of it allowing the Listowel player to push in their third goal. With only two minutes left in the game Listowel really pulled out the guns and kept Seaforth's defence busy clearing our end. Listowel was given a boost at the 44 second mark when Seaforth received a penalty and they then pulled their goalie. Seaforth set up their defensive block fac- ing six determined Listowel players. Quick reflexes by Boyd Devereaux allowed him to intercept a Listowel pass and carry it down to Listowel's empty net finishing off the game with Seaforth's fifth goal at the one second mark.
