The Seaforth Novice Ringette team end-
ed 1989 and started 1990 with exciting
victories.
The Seaforth Novice 2 Ringette team.
gained a tie for first place on December
23, by defeating Goderich 8.7 in a fast -
paced game that kept the fans on the
edges of their seats until the final buzzer.
Goderich took the early lead but Denise
O'Reilly tied the game on a pass from
Michele Tyndall. Goderiwh went ahead 2-1
but Seaforth fought back with goals from
Michele Tyndall and two from Melissa
Robertson to lead 4-3 at the end of the first
period.
In the second period the Seaforth girls
started strong as Denise O'Reilly scored
again and Melissa Robertson added
another. This gave Seaforth a 6-3 lead but
Goderich didn't guit, scoring two goals off
their own to close the gap to 6-5. In an ex-
citing final minute off play four goals were
scored, two by each team. Melissa Robert-
son scored her fourth goal and Michele
Tyndall fired the winner with only 34
seconds left in the game.
On Sunday, January 7, the girls fought
back from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Exeter
7-5. By the end of the first period, Cathy
Coyne and Melissa Robertson had reduced
Exeter's lead to 3-2 and then the girls real-
ly went to work in the second! Melissa
Robertson scored three more times and
assisted on goals by Kendall Schenck and
Tricia Jansen to sew up another win.
Defensive players Julie -Ann Crowley,
Kim Devereaux, Cheryl Workman and
Melissa Etue, as well as goalie Karen
Delvecchio contributed to a fine Seaforth
victory.

Peewees win
Legion tourney, Silver
The Seaforth PeeWee "CCs" found out
the weekend after Christmas that 'all that
glitters is not gold' when they won the
Watford Silver Stick, advancing them to
the International Silver Stick in Port
Huron, January 11-14. The Watford tourna-
ment was a gruelling one - games each
day for five days, poor weather for driv-
ing and the indigestion of Christmas past.
The first game was Wednesday,
December 27 against Ridgetown. It was a
morning of late waivers, . rotten weather
and the 'can 1 get back into hockey -blues?'
Fireball Mike Weber got the hat trick in
this game, with Boyd Devereaux corning
close behind with two goals. Mike Moylan,
Jamie McNichol and Wayne Schoonder-
woerd all were credited with assists.
Seaforth won 5 - 2 and got to return the
next day.
GAME TWO
Thursday the boys pulled the 8: l p.m.
time slot and had a chance to rest up.
Parkhill came out strong and scored the
first goal at the one minute mark of the
first period with a fluke shot from the cor-
ner that caught the goalie's stick and slid
under him. Soon afterward Brad Moore got
the puck from the face-off and carried it
to the point and sent in a hard shot to test
Parkhill's goalie. The defence for Parkhill

On Sunday, January 7 the Seaforth
Belles displayed some fine ringette skills,
as they thumped Exeter and Clinton in a
doubleheader.
The first game was at 3:30 p.m. in Clin-
ton. The girls were hot to trot and ac-
cumulated several goals to beat the fast -
learning Clinton team. Sara Teall is quick-
ly establishing her position in net and looks
very promising.
After travelling back to Seaforth they
had to engage in putting on the "ole"
skates again to face Exeter. The girls were
still warmed up and went out on the ice
determined to win, and they did so with no
trouble at all.
covered up any rebound. Jeff Flanagan
stopped a perfect set-up by Parkhill when
he intercepted a pass in front of Seaforth's
net and cleared it over the blue line dur-
ing a Parkhill power play. Seaforth final-
ly got on the scoreboard when Jamie
McNichol, floating in front of net, nipped
in a puck after Mike and Boyd Devereaux
set up a perfect pass at 1:15 mark of the
first.
In the second period Steve Maritally
blistered in a shot that rebounded off the
goalie's chest in front where Mike and
Boyd Devereaux scrambled with Parkhill
defense to score number two for Seaforth.
Seaforth took a 3 - 1 lead when Mike
Moylan fought the puck out of the corner
and fed Jamie McNichol, who stick handl-
ed around the goalie land slipped it in.
Later :in the period Scafoitth defense , got.
caught up and Parkhill came in on a one
and one and beat goaltender Adam Agar
to narrow the score to 3 2. Parkhill tied
up the score in the first minute of the third
period when they flipped in a rebound.
The play was intense at this point as
everyone knew that the last goal would, ad-
vance the winner on. The face-off was in
Parkhill's 7nne for the winning go Mike
Devereaux won the puck -he passed it to
Steve Mclnally at the point wno back-
bleheader
Goals were accomplished by the usual
goalscorers but there were a few that
highlighted the day. Tracey Sills moved up
to wing and achieved several spectacular
goals while still "sometimes" maintaining
to stand up.
Also Tracy Bennett was
struck by a bolt from God and scored
some awesome quick goals. Sheri King,
Tracy Bisback and of course Jill Betties
worked hard in the corners. Lisa Hender-
son soon recovered from the weekend's
endeavors and helped in leading the squad
to victory. Overall the whole team played
"mint" and appear to be unbeaten in the
New Year.
Seaforth Novice win four for four
Santa Claus was good to the Seaforth
Novice hockey team over the Christmas
holidays, as it picked up four wins in four
tries and upped its record to a league -
leading mark of 11 wins, one loss, and one
tie, for 23 points.
The first victory came via a 13-0 count
in Brussels on December 29, as Scott Van
Dooren led the attack with four goals and
two assists. Up next was Scott Henderson
with two goals and one assist. Ryan Van
Dooren and Adam Leonhardt chipped in
with two goals each. Adam's goals were
the first two of his short novice career, as
he continues to improve and gain con-
fidence, giving Coach Henderson another
offensive threat as the Gold Puck Tourna-
ment and playoffs approach.
Mark Vock and Sean Ludwig had a goal
and an assist each as the score mounted.
Jamie Dick got a shift up front late in the
game and responded by connecting for his
first goal of the season with only 28
seconds remaining. Stephen Phillips en-
dured the frozen feet in the Seaforth goal.
The next night Mitchell came to town for
a game that would decide who stood alone
in first place. The game was everything it
was hyped to be as it was end-to-end ac-
tion with Seaforth's Sean Ludwig and Mit-
chell's Jeremy Elliott playing major roles
in keeping the nets empty until late in the
third period. Jason Hulley and Ben Murray
engineered the game's first goal at 8:55 of
the third when they set up Scott Hender-
son who put the finishing touches on the
play with a 10 -foot wrist shot.
Two minutes and 30 seconds later Mit-
chell's Nick Larsen evened the score and
also set up a wild finish.
What proved to be the winner came
three and a half minutes later following
more breathtaking action. This time it was
Scott Van Dooren who ended the flurry of
action with an unassisted goal with 2:45
left in the game, making in 2-1. Ludwig
and Elliott were once again the major
principles in keeping the score at 2-1 until
the buzzer went, leaving Seaforth alone in
first place.
The new year arrived and so did Blyth
for a Saturday afternoon contest that had
all the suspense that the arrival of a new
decade also holds.
Michael Onsley connected for Blyth in
the first period for a 1-0 lead that would
stand only until 40 seconds in the middle
frame. At that time Scott Van Dooren
brought Seaforth even with brother Ryan
lending a helping hand. Halfway through
the second Scott Van Dooren turned the
lead over to Seaforth with Jamie Dick
drawing an assist. Late in the second Ryan
Van Dooren pounced on a rebound and
buried what proved to be the winner.
Early in the third Blyth's Amanda
Anderson cut Seaforth's lead in half and
left them nine minutes to get the equalizer.
Up and down, back and forth, constant ac-
tion for 8:44 minutes. With only 16 seconds
remaining Blyth's number 14 skated down
left wing, broke toward the net and let go
a wrist shot that ended in the ringing of a
goal post. As the puck sprang loose and
was steered to the friendly confines of a
vacant corner, the timer ticked toward
zero, and another Seaforth victory at 3-2.
January 7 brought Stephen Township to
town and until there were only 12 minutes
remaining in the game, Scott Van Dooren
owned Seaforth's two goals, while Stephan
Township got goals from Jeremy Pickering
and Christian Stuckless.
In the final 12 minutes the bottom fell
out on Stephen Township as Scott Hender-
son canned a natural hat trick with J.D.
Nolan assisting on all three goals. Scott
Van Dooren and Ben Murray each Counted
one late in the game to give Seaforth a 7-2
victory and its eleventh win in league play.
The Novice hit the road Thursday for
Clinton. Game time is 7:15 p.m. :The
Novice also have a TBA oh Saturday,

handed it at the goal going through for-
wards and defense to come to rest behind
Parkhill's goalie. Parkhill pulled their
goalie in an attempt to tie the score but
Seaforth held them off to win 4 - 3 and
advance.
GAME THREE
Forest was next on Seaforth's hit list.
Mike and Boyd Devereaux and Mike, Hugill
played tic-tac-toe with the puck during the
first period and racked up three goals for
Seaforth in that time. Brad Moore sent a
missle at the Forest goalie early in the se-
cond period which dropped in front of the
net bug Seaforth couldn't get a stick on it
to score. The rest of the period saw some
sloppy playing by both teams, but hard
work near the end of the second period
saw Mike Hugill at the slot, tip in an ex-
cellent pass set-up by Mike and - Boyd
Devereaux. The third period saw Mike
Hugill again receive the puck from Mike
and Boyd Devereaux. Then he carried it
past the lone defence and picked off the
top corner for goal number five. Jainie
McNichol did a photocopy of that play
when he carried the puck around the
defense to score number six for Seaforth.
Forest scored their first goal in the third 1
period when a rebound was slipped past
goalie Chad Lamont. Forest scored again
during a power play to bring the score to
6 - 2. Boyd Devereaux scored number
seven for Seaforth after Mike Devereaux
and Mike Hugill fought for the puck in the
corner and passed it out so he could pick
a hole in the top corner. Mike Weber
finished off the scoring for Seaforth with 1
number eight late in the third. 8 - 2 was
the score and Seaforth PeeWee "CC" ad-
vanced again.
GAME FOUR
Chatham 2 was the next team to
challenge Seaforth using poor coaching
strategy. Most of the Chatham team spent
their time in the bad boy box for 'check- ,
ing from behind' penalties. Seaforth played
their .type of game and Boya iievereaux
started the scoring when he batted the
puck to Mike Devereaux who tipped in
