COMMUNr'FX= SHOWER
,On ..FridayIevening, December 18, a
community shower, was held in the base-
ment.of Duff'a•United Church to honour
Margaret Shortreed on her marriage
later tthisc month, .Mary Pennington was in
charge of the guest book and names were
written on a; Cameo Cloth for Margaret.
Gloria Wilbee welcomed everyone and
thanked Margery Huether and Phyllis
Mitchell for their entertainment of music
as people were arriving.
Gloria opened the program with a
poem, "To make a Marriage Happy".
Eight members of the Black Sheep that
sing with the Harmony Hi-lites, which
Margaret sings with, pleased the au-
dience when they rendered several
numbers. Elva Wilbee read a couple of
poems, followed by a step dance number
by Marci McCall. The Moffett Brothers,
Brett, Kent and Mark, sang several
numbers accompanied by their grand-
mother, Mildred Traviss at the piano.
Heidi McClure read, "A recipe for
Margaret's Happy Marriage." A lively
sing -song was conducted by Marie
McGavin with Elva Wilbee as piano
accompanist.
Margaret,along with her future mother-
in-law Mrs. Reta McInroy and her sister-
in-law, Valerie Shortreed, were asked to
come' forward. They had been presented
with corsages prior of the program.
Margaret McMahon presented
Margaret Shortreed with a gift on behalf
of the Women's Institute, Huron -East
District. Several ladies from the District
were also present.
Mary Bernard gave an address while
firends of the bride-to-be carried in the
gifts. Margaret thanked everyone for the
lovely gifts and asked them to her open
house on Dec., 27 and her wedding on
Dec. 30. An apron with all of the bows
arranged on it was presented to
Margaret while "For She's a Jolly Good
Fellow" was sung. After the Grace was
sung, a delicious lunch was served by the
unit, bringing an enjoyable evening to a
close.
INSTITUTE CHRISTMAS MEETING
Tables were all set up with the
Christmas clothes, candles and cen-
trepieces for the smorgasbord pot luck
supper at the hall, on Wednesday even-
ing, December 20 when 11 Walton In-
stitute members and two guests sat down
to a delicious meal following the Institute
Grace.
The business was conducted by Marion
Godkin upstairs. After the usual opening
Marion read the poem "What is
Christmas". Minutes were approved as
read by Marjory Humphries. In the cor-
respondence, a letter was read from the
nursing home in Brussels, requesting that
Walton Institute put on the program for
the birthdays in February. The next noon
luncheon will be on January 17.
Leona McDonald' presented Margaret
Shortreed with a gift on behalf of the
Walton Institute on the occasion of her
approaching marriage. Margaret made a
fitting reply with thanks.
Marion announced that the meeting had
come to the interesting part when
members took part in the program. Mar-
jory Humphries read the opening poem,
followed by Helen Craig conducting three
games of a kind of Bingo. Viola Kirkby
gave a couple of readings and Leona had
Christmas riddles. Margaret Craig read
a poem and Marion Godkin chose sides
for the "Win, Lose or Draw" game.
Margaret Shortreed gave a reading and
Betty McCall read Seasonal Snippets.

supplied Material for everyone to maitre
one filled with caddy for Christmas.

Members returned downstairs to the
Christmas • tree where there was an es-
chantge of gifts• Marjory Closed with "The

OM'S CHURCH
Christmas services were held at Duff's
United Church on Sunday. Rev. Bonnie
Cole Arnal 'was in 'the pulpit for the
lighting of the Advent candles. In the
morning service, Cindy McCallum, Mur-
ray .Dennis, 'Chris Davies'- and Doug
Fraser assisted with the scripture
readings. The Choir sang an anthem,
"Angel Song." A musical number was
presented by Marion Godkin With the
trumpet, Keith Wilbee An the saxaphone,
accompanied by Margery Huether at the •
piano.
Christmas Eve service was held at 7:30
p.m. The. church auditori4}m was adorn
ed with candles, the Christmas tree and
the Babe in the manger. Christmas
hymns were sung and the choir perform-
ed a number. Five members of the
Junior Choir sang witlyMarion Godkin as
pianist.
HOLIDAY VISITORS
People in this vicinity have been on the
go this Christmas season, visiting fami-
ly and friends. Christmas Day guests
with Emerson and Phyllis Mitchell and
Neil were Gordon and Julie Mitchell and
Doug, Ross and .Julie Ann Mitchell, (lol-
ly and Erin, Doug and Janet Mitchell,
Robbie and Amanda and Mrs. Kathleen
Cuthill.
Clint and Judy Emmrich and family
entertained the Emmrich family at a pre -
Christmas dinner on Friday December
22.
Celebrating . with Mrs. and Mrs. Roily
Achilles and Marg. Taylor on Christmas
Day were Rick and Brian Taylor, and
Danny and Karen Achilles and sons. On
Boxing Day they entertained 26 members
of their family at a Christmas dinner at

Mr. and Mrs, Ray Hltether, Steven and t

Mack Webster and family of Varna , Sup-
per guests. at the same home were Mr..
and Mrs. Danny R2hnes and Mrs. Ruby
Webster, all of Clinton, Wilfred Shortreed
and - Margaret of Walton, and Emig
Shortreed of Toronto.
Mr. and Mrs. Allan McCall were
Christmas Day dinner guests with Mr..
and Mrs, :.John... A-Perrie. Other family
members at the same home were Mr.
and Mrs. David Perrie of Walton, and
Mr. and Mss. Will Perrie and their little
daughter Margaret of Halifax, N.S. who
have been spending a week with his
parents.
Mrs. Ruth Thamer spent Christmas
Day with her daughter Shirley and
Valker Hertlein and family in London
with other members of the Thamer fami-
ly. Mrs. Bev. Stevenson, Ron and Chris
spent Christmas at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Stuart Stevenson with other family
members. On Boxing Day, they had their
Christmas with Mr. and Mrs. Allan
McCall.
Viola Kirkby spent Christmas with
Doug and Jean. Kirkby and Paul, who
was home from Scarborough for the
week -end. Visiting with Viola Kirkby dur-
ing the holidays were Mr. and Mrs.
Lester, Machan and daughter of Toronto,
Mr. and Mrs.. Glenn Machan and family
of Goderich; Mr, and Mrs. Ray Andrade
and family of Scarborough.
Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Currie and
James of Brampton visited with Mr. and
Mrs. Allan McCall over Wednesday night.
Elva Bolger had her family all home for
Christmas when 15 enjoyed their
hristmas dinner. Mary Humphries and
family members .spent Christmas with
George and Kim Kruse and family of
ayfield.
