— Orange celebrations are beiog held
today in Seaforth, Gorrie aud Dungan-

—Tse Gerrie Vidette is not being
published this week, the staff taking the

—The fanners are now busy at haying
and the past two weeks has been very
favorable weather for this wcrk.
—The regular meeting of Court Mait-
land, Canadian Foresters will be held
on Friday evening of this week.
—Mr. Rich. Harrison, of Walkerton
has purchased the Vendome hotel pro-
perty at Teeswater from Mr. Verson.
—Several of the tonnis players of Brus-
sels visited. Wingham on Wednesday
evening of last week and won from the
local players.
—David Goldberg of Hamilton has
bought Harry Brown's iron, valued at
$7000 and is shipping shale to the Ball-
ville and Brantford mills.
—The final match in'the W. F. A. was
played at Mildmay, Friday night between
Mildmay and Freston, resulting in a
victory for Mildmay by a score of 3 to 1.
—The final game of the senior W. F. A
series was played at Dandas on Saturday
between Seaforth and Dundas. The re-
sult was a win for Seaforth by 3 goals to
2.
Miss Maggie Coulter, who learned the
operating and express business with Mr.
Alex. Ross, left last week for Cobourg to
take charge of the 0. P. R telegraph
office.
—A number of Winghamites took ad-
vantage of the excursion to Toronto and
the Falls on Friday last, via C. P. R.
and spent a few days with Toronto
friends.
—Mr. A. Taylor, of Detroit, a former
well known resident of Wiugham has
been promoted to the position of Assist-
ant Superintendent for the Metropolitan
Life Insurance Co.
—A new street crossing has been laid
from the town hall to the new past office
building. This was a good move on the
part of our Street Committee. A cross-
ing at this point was very much needed.
—Mr. A. Taylor has east finished the
work of building a cement wall under
Mr. J. Hunter's barn on the 2nd line of
.tlforris and has also pit in a cement
floor in Mr. Rich. James' barn in East
— The many friends of Mr. Jas. Coch-
rane will be pleased to learn that he is
still improving. He was. a very sick
man for some days, but all will hope to
soon see him able to cell on his old
friends in town.
— Mrs Jas Gaunt, who recently mov-
ed from Kinloss to Lower Wingham has
been seriously ill for some little time

Ten cows, valued at $550, were killed
by lightning on the farm of B. Sage,
Folden's Corners, near Ingersoll, during
a severe electrical storm Monday night.
The animals had taken shelter under a
tree and they were all killed outright.
They were found early Tuesday morning
in an indescribable heap. Mr. Turner,
of the same place, had a horse killed in
the pasture field.

Lamont left Tuesday on a trip to the
Pacific Coast. They will visit with
friends at several places en route and
Mr M. Lamont will spend some little
time with relatives in North Dakota.
Miss E. L. Lloyd leaves this week for
California, where she will spend a year
in visiting with her three brothers.
Her many friends will wish her an en-
joyable visit and a safe return home
greatly benefitted by her stay in the
Southern country. She was given a
beautiful present by the employees of
the door factory before leaving.
Mr E A Little, M P P, will be appoint-
ed Registrar of the Surrogate Court,
and Mr J McCosh of Orillia, deputy
clerk of the High Court of Simcoe
county.
Mails for England by the Allan Liners
and the 0. P. 1i4. will leave Montreal and
Quebec on Friday mornings, and the
call at Moville has been abandoned. The
result of this change will be to save
about seven hours in the passage of
mails to the Old Country.
