One of the pioneer residents of Turn -
berry passed away on Tuesday of this
week in the person of Henry Hawking,
who for many years lived on a farm
north of this village. Deceased went on
the excursion to Guelph on the 23rd of
June and contracted a heavy cold, wllioh
developed into pneumonia, Ile was
aged 76 years and was highly respected
by a large number of friends. The
funeral takes place Friday afternoon to
the Blaevale cemetery.

Three Toronto citizens, Mr. Walter
Barwick, K. C., Mr. C. A. Pipon and

wreck of the steamship exprens at Salis-

Robert Yuill, of near Belgrave, who
recently spent a few days with his son,
Jas, 4th con„ had his driver stray away
in the night. He was found a few days
later in Wingham, where he was being
cared for at Mr. L. Hanson's stable.
While trying to drive his horse across
a culvert that was being repaired Mr.
Richard Porter, brother of Mrs. Robt.
Marshall, 2nd con. received a severe kick
in the face from the animal. His face is
terribly disfigured, the upper jaw being
broken into seven pieces and the fleshy
part of the nose torn away. The wonted,
though painful, is not considered danger-
ous.

ing between a team from Wipghatu and
a picked eleven from this enterprising
village resulted in a tie, each side scor-
ing one goal.
Mr and Mrs Wm Wray left on Tues-
day morning on an extended trip through

score of the forenoon game, the Blueyale
boys being winners. Harriston nine and
the Union baseball team played a game,
the score being 7 to 6 in favor of the

48th Highlanders band, of Toronto and

The rooster race was not "pallet" off.
The shooting gallery was well patron-
ized.
A feature of the afternoon was the
performance of a well-known resident of
our village and a Wingham alderman in
the air ship.
The newspapers of the county were
well represented. Among the followers
of Benjamin Frauklia we noticed
Messrs. W. H. Kerr, Brussels; W. J.
Sharpin, Corrie; and J. J. Hunter, Kin.

13th con., is away on a visit in Morris

Roddick is past 85 years of age and has
been a very rugged man.
Grey township Voters' List for 1906
has been issued and was first posted up
on Wednesday of last week. There are
018 names in Part I; 95 in Part II; and
30 in Part III -1043 in all. Number of
Jurors 601.

Methodist Church here on Sunday last,
and created a moat favorable impression.
He is a young man of undoubted ability,
and wits no doubt rise to prominence in
his high calling.
The. garden party under the auspices
of the Methodist Church, held on Tues-
day evening on the parsonage grounds,
was indeed a very successful affair.
There was a large atteudance, the Wing -
ham band furnished very choice ransie,
and everyone seemed to thoroughly en-
joy themselves. The proceeds were in
the neighborhood of $100.

fully gowned and after the ceremony
the company present enjoyed a pleasant
tea. Everyone present had an enjoyable
time.

visiting for a few days with her parents,

ter.
A very pretty wedding took place on
Wednesday eveuing, the 6th of Jane, in
Massey, Algoma, at the home of Mr and
Mrs Archie A. McDonald, formerly of
Morris Township, when their youngest
daughter, Nellie J. was joined in marri-
age to Mr Geo. Newman, of Watford.
Rev C B Jeffery,Methodiat minister offic-
ated. The bride was beautifully attired
in a dress of brocaded lustre, trimmed
with white silk, while Miss Jessie Mc-
Donald, sister of the bride, acted as
bridesmaid and wore a neatly made
dress of bine cashmere trimmed with
white silk. The groom was supported
by his brother, Mr James Newman, of
Manitoulin Island. After hearty con-
gratulations wore extended to the young
couple by friends and relatives, all sat
down to partake of au inviting and
sumptuous wedding sapper. The rest
of the evening was spent in games and
merriment, and the next day the happy
couple left to visit relatives on the Is-
land and elsewhere.
Saturday afternoon, June 23rd a very
happy party assembled at the comfort-
able hones 9f Thomas and Hiles Russoit
6th line, numbering 75 in all. A most -_
enjoyable time was repent by everybody.
Music, social chat, eze., were on the pro-
gram. An elegant supper was served to
which ample j astice was done. A photo-
graphic group was taken of the company
by Artist Brewer, of Brussels. Among
the members of the family present were:

and son, Thee , Wm., Alex., Mrs. 0.
Agin, daughter and son, Mrs. J. Haley
and sun, all of Saginaw, Mich,; Dr, Jno.,
of Elsie, Mich , and Mrs. Ruasel's sister,
of Bay City, Mich. The only absentee
among the children of the homestead
was Leonard, of Winnipeg, who was un-
able to be present. It is not often so
large a family is permitted to assemble
together after attaining manhood and
womanhood. The occasion will not be
soon forgotten. Many good wishes for
the continued health and prosperity of
the highly esteemed host and hostess were
expressed.
A very pretty wedding was solemnized
on Wednesday, Jane 27th, at the resi-
dence of Mr. John Brigham, Hallett,
when his daughter, Isabella Margaret,
became the wife of Win. Mason, young-
est son of John Mason, of Morris, and a
very prosperous and popular young
farmer. The ceremony was performed
by Rev. Dr. McLean of Blyth, in the
presence of about one hundred gueste.
The bride, charmingly gowned, was
given away by her father; she carried a
boquet of carnations and maidenhair
fern, and wore flowers in her hair; the
ceremony took place ih front of a beak
of ferns and carnations. The wedding
march was played by Miss Nellie Brig-
ham, sister of the bride. After the core-
mony they repaired to the dining room
and a sumptuous supper was partaken
of, The tables were beautifully decora-
ted with carnations. The bride was the
reoipieut of a great many beentiful gifts,
a number being sent by absent friends
at a distance. Guests were present from
Portage la Prairie, Palmerston, Kincar-
dine, Clinton, Belgrave, Illuevale,
Jamestown and Brussels. A reception
was held at the groom'6 comfortable
home on 1+'tiday night. We join with
their friends in wishing them long life
and happiness.
