The Grand Central Hotel at Niagara
Falls was destroyed by fire.
Bishop Bowman dedicated the uew
Emmanuel Church of the Evangelical
Associatioi at Waterloo.
W. H. Harper of Chatham was burn-
ed to death in a fire that destroyed his
summer cottage at Erieau.
A record in large families has been
established. by Mr. J. S. Dismi ke, a
prosperous farmer of Texas. Hie thirty-
third child was born recently, and most
of his offspring are alive. He has had,
three wives.
Rev. Dr. Gundy, of Wingham, does
not look like a man who can sprint very
fast, but we can testify to the fact that
he would make it interesting for men of
less avoirdupois. He and Rev. W. E.
Kerr tarried at the parsonage Monday
morning, being on his way home to
Wingham from Goderich, and Mr. Kerr
improviseda grocer's horse with which to
reach the station. Those who saw the
horse going say that it would not be hard
to sustain a charge of furious driving
against the clerics. However, when a
block from the station, Dr. Gundy
jumped out of the rig, and struck a pace
that Would have won out in any athletic
competition. He caught his train but
then Conductor McCallum good-natured-
ly waited a moment or two for him.—

—The Toronto Daily Star and News
have decided to raise the subscription
price of their papers to $1.50 per year.
The end of the $1 daily has been reached.
The $i would hardly cover the cost of

with TIMES and either one of these papers
will be $2.30.
—The Huron Regiment will go into
camp at London on June 18th. The of-
ficers of the Regiment are patriotic and
painstaking, they take great interest in
the force, bnt for obvious reasons it will
be somewhat difficult for -them to fill up
the ranks this year still more difficult
than In 13005.
—"Jerry from Kerry," the perform-
ance given in the Opera House on Sa-
turday revellinglast by the Patten and
Perry Co. was only fairly attended. The
show was a very good one and fully up
to what it was when it was last in Wing -
ham. Saturday bight is not a good night
for entertainments.
—Vegetation during the last days of
last week advanced with remarkable
rapidity. The warm rains and summer-
like heat caused nature to spring into
new life. The frost of Saturday night
nipped some of the tender plants, but
further than that no damage is reported.
Warm weather with showers is what is
now needed.
