EAST WAWANOSII
On Tuesday, May lat, Mr. John
Coultes received a telegram from Lon-
don acquainting bila with the death of
his brother, Mr. Richard Coultes. The
remains were brought to Belgrave on
Wednesday and on Thursday the funeral
took place to St. Helens cemetery.
On Thursday, May 3rd, Mr. John Mo-
Lean attended the funeral of his mother
Mrs. D. McLean, which took place at
Bluevale.

The Bluevale Creamery will com-
mence operations next weak.
Qnarterley meeting servioe of the
Blnevale Circuit was held in the Metho-
dist church on Sunday morning last.
Just as the TIMES was going to press
last week we Iearned of the death of
Isabella King, relict of the late Donald
McLean, of East Wawanosh. Deceased
Ihad been living for some time past at
the home of Mr. John Gannett. She
was one of the pioneer residents of the
section, a member of the Presbyterian
Church and highly respected by a large
circle of friends. Mrs. McLean had
almost reached her 80th year. The
funeral took place on Thursday after-
noon to the Bluevale cemetery.

On Monday evening of last week the
Misses Hoggard, who have removed to
Winnipeg this week, were kindly re-
membered by the members of the choir
of St. John's church, Brussels, to which
they belonged. The gathering took
place at the Rectory. Councillor Jones
read au appreciative address and Miss
Jean McLanchlin presented the young
ladies with a fine photographic group of
the choir, which was suitably acknow-
ledged.
The following particulars are copied
from Assessor Turnbull's roll as completed
for presentation to the Council this year:

5 and 21, 2.40; nuhnber of children be-

of bitches, 5.
Last week Financial Secretary Plnm,
of Court Princess Alexadnria, C. O. F.,
Brussels, received notificatioki of the de-
mise of Robert Laidlaw, a former well
known Brusselsite, who departed this life
at South St, Joseph, Missouri, on April
2Gth and was buried on the 27th nit. Ile
was 73 years of age. Mr. Laidlaw had
been poorly for several ttonths. IIe
was foreman in a pork packing establish-
went. It is about 23 years since he re•
moved from town after selling out his
livery business in. the stand now owned
by Hugh Ramsay,

Sunshine Sabbath School has reopen-
ed. Miss Janet Hood is the Superinten-
dent.
A. Nicholson & Sone, of Bodmin Lime
Works, have already burned two kilns
of lime. They shipped a car load to Lt.
Col. Young, of Goderich, and have made
smaller deliveries to other towns.
Mrs (Rev.) Finkbeiner and baby
daughter, of Sebringville, are welcome
visitors at Mrs. Thos. Maunders'. Rev.
Mr, Finkbeiner has been moved to
Campden, near Niagara Falls, where he
will labor the coming term. We wish
him success on his new charge.
This week Nelson Maunders left for
the West where he purposes engaging in
farming in the Saskatoon district. He
is an industrious young man who should
do well. While sorry to lose him we
wish bine the best success in that land of
wonderful possibilities. Rev. Ernest
Maunders will manage the home farm
here until after harvest.

Mr. Peter C. Scott of the 10th con. of
CaIross, west, dropped dead at noon on
Wednesday of last week. He had been
subject to fainting spells for the past
year or more, but was as well as usual
until after eating his dinner when ho
suddenly expired without rising from
the table. Death was due to heart fail.

and leaves a widow, three sons and two
daughters.
This week we record the death of
Hattie Vincent, wife of Mr. David
Ritchie, who passed away early on
Thursday morning of last week, aged 27
years and four months. Deceased was
married to her now bereaved husband
sixteen months ago, and also leaves a
young sou, a week old, to mourn her
loss. Mrs Ritchie was held in high
esteem by a large circle of friends and
her sudden death is very I ach felt by

The late George Garton, whose sad
death was recorded in the Thies last
weak, was a native of Nottivahamshire,
England, where he lived many years.
In 1869 he was married to Miss Mary A.
Rue, and about two years later they
camp to Canada settling on the 12th con-
cession of West Wawanosh, where they
remained for one year, afterwards re-
moving to East Wawanosh, where the
family have resided ever since. Three
brothers of deceased are, Samuel and
Elijah of Samiiac couuty, Mich., and
James of Port Arthur. Three sisters re-
side in England, Besides the above, the
late Mr Garton is survived by a widow
and six sons and four daughters :-Samuel
of St. Helens; George in Whitechurch;
William in Collingwood; John, in Sant -
lac county, Mich.; Thomas at home;
Edward, near Lucknow; Mrs Charles S.
Rintoul of Wingham, and Margaret,
Mary and Mabel at home. The funeral
took ?lace on Friday afternoon last to
the Bethel cemetery, and was largely
attended. The bereaved widow and
family have the sympathy of many
friends in their sadden and severe af-
fiiatimn.

Blyth has lost one of its most promi-
nent and amiable young men in the per-
son of Mr. John 13e11, who left last week
for Calgary, where ho is joining his
brother Harry in business.
A quiet wedding took place at the re-
sidence of Mr. James Leach on Tues-
day evening of last week at six o'clock,
when his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Leach,
of Titlsonburg, was married to Mr.
Horace Weatherwax of the same place.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jones and their
grand -daughter, Miss Emma Murray,
leave Blyth on the 18th inst. for Qaebec,
where they take the steamship, Empress
of Britaiu for Liverpool and thence to
Wolverhampton, Eaglancl. At the lat-
ter place they intend spending cousider-
able time with old friends,
Blyth Lodge, No. 366, I 0. 0 F , was
instituted Wednesday evening of last
week by F. R. Blewett of Listowel,
Grand Master of Ontario. The degree
teams of Exeter and Brussels exempli-
fied the work, assisted by brothers from
Clinton and Goderich. .About 130 were
