The Canadian colony here is not a number one, but its members make up in enterprise what they lack in num- bers. They are a most welcome addi- tion to the growing foreign population here, for they bring good sense, iudns try, and alert minds. It is certainly remarkable that a country with some 6,000,000 people should be rich enough finance great undertakings in Cabs, Rio de Janeiro, and the Otty of Mexico. It is, however, well known that the Cana- i dians are, per capita, the greatest buyers 1 of foreign products and wares in tho world. Their trade is immense in emus parison with their numbers. This, we must explain, is due to their energy and their possession of a country abounding , iu resources, and to their intelligent ex• ploitatiot of those natural eletnents of II wealth.
