Canada / ocna Member of the Canadian Community Newspaper Association and the Ontario Community Newspapers Association Val's Views Valerie Gillies Successful results abound It has been a very busy and successful time throughout our readership area as we close out the month of August. There is much to look forward to in Sep- tember and beyond. Congratulations to the Kinsmen as well as all the businesses, vendors, sponsors volunteers and workers who have brought about another successful festival in the 2015 Lucknow's Music in the Fields! When I spoke with the co -manager of Tick- etScene on the grounds, he was impressed that this is the fastest growing festival of this kind that he has had the privilege of working with. Impromptu conversations with anyone I met on the grounds brought positive comments. This is no coincidence. It is totally due to the professionalism and efficiency of those who were involved in bringing this event to the village, growing it from previous experience and successes through to recruiting the help they needed and working at the event, itself. This festi- val does our area proud. Kingsbridge is another proud commu- nity, for good reason. Congratulations on the success of taking on the purchase, ren- ovation and re -opening of the former St. Joseph's Kingsbridge Church as the new St. Joseph's Community Kingsbridge Centre. More congratulations are in order. This time to the organizers and winners at the Huron County Plowing Match. Please note that the Bruce County Match is still to come. Now, looking forward to future successes... Be sure to keep on top of Fall Fair dates in the area. The Lucknow Fall Fair has two weekends to remember, as the Little Mud - der happens September 12, while the Fair is September 18-20. The Ripley Fall Fair is September 25-26. It is time to plan tree plantings to improve land, water and air in the future. Preparing for future success is extended to the babies still to be born in both Huron and Bruce counties. Congratulations, again, on all successful ventures which have happened. These are exciting times. It is not time to sit on our lau- rels, but to keep the momentum going into the future. It is bound to be an incredible ride. Lucknow News Ruth Dobrensky Once again, Music in the Fields has brought thousands to our little town for a weekend of musical entertainment which was enjoyed by all who attended. The weather last week didn't look too promising for a few days, but the worst was over before the big weekend. The people in charge of organizing did their usual excellent job and everyone was fed, housed and entertained. I'm sure we'll get an official report from the Kinsmen on numbers of guests and amounts of monies earned in due course. For all you volunteers out there, take a deep breath and relax, you did a great job. Our local Rumoli club met for our monthly meeting on a rainy evening recently, but the rain and gray skies were not able to spoil our good spirits and exuberance. The Lucknow Sepoy Ranees spent an enjoyable time last week having a pot- luck picnic and get-together. We trav- elled to Goderich for our picnic and then spent time enjoying a few humour- ous readings and planning future meet- ing, this despite the cold nor'wester blowing in off the lake. The one good thing was that the rain held off until after we'd finished our lunch on the beach. Our good friend Marcia Dawson who just celebrated her 97th birthday had to spend the actual day, plus a few more, in hospital but the word is that she will be home by the time this paper hits the stands. Get well soon Marcia. Congratulations to all our baseball and soccer athletes on the wonderful job they did this summer. It's wonderful to see all the kids out playing and learning the great skills that will enable them to become well disciplined in sports and life later on. I read with interest the story about the release of turtle hatchlings in last week's paper. A few weeks ago while coming home from I can't remember where, I noted a van pulled off the road and slowed down as I realized the driver was watching a huge snap- per attempting to cross the road. That driver probably stayed with that turtle directing traffic to slow down until the snapper got across the road. I com- mend that person and ask the public to try not to hit turtles who are becom- ing endangered. It would also be a good idea to watch for cyclists and pedestrians, as part of the story had to do with a cyclist named Julie Sawchuk who was hit by a vehicle and left para- lyzed. Too many of us drivers don't pay enough attention to what is hap- pening on the roads, so let us all slow down, be more observant and drive more carefully. On another subject, I recently wrote to the by-law officer in regard to the smokers using the benches along Campbell Street here in town. One of my concerns was the fact that there is no place for smokers to put their butts except on the street. Part of the response explained that they don't put out places for cigarette butts as they are trying to discourage smokers from smoking and throwing their butts, as the benches are for people to rest on, not sit and smoke on. So if you are a smoker, please refrain from discarding your butts all around the benches, they look disgusting. Here Comes the parade A chance of a lifetime Joanne McDonagh Kinette parade commmittee The 152nd Lucknow fall fair parade is on September 19 at 11 a.m. The Luc - know Kinettes, along with the Lucknow Agricultural Society, invite you to be part of the parade. The theme "Country Bumpkins and Harvest Pumpkins" is so easy. Get your Halloween costume or Thanksgiving decorations out early. Wear your favourite Country Bumpkin clothes. You can get exercise by walking the parade route and maybe win a prize too. This category doesn't usually get many participants so let's change that. Kids, you can ride a decorated bike or trike, pull a wagon or walk your pet. Anyone can be on a float with a family, club, church or a business. Lucknow has lots of businesses and it would be great to see them in the parade in their favour- ite bumpkin work clothes. There are vintage vehicle categories and horse entries that don't even have to dress up - just join the parade. For more parade information go to www.lucknowagsociety.ca or pick up an entry form at the Sentinel or Hardware store. Give the parade judges a chance to really think. Be up on Havelock Street after 10 a.m. to be judged. Don't be a bump on the log when you can be a Country Bumpkin in the Luc - know Fall Fair parade.
