On Saturday April 14th, Mr, John Gaunt of St. Helens passed away at the ripe old age of 76 years and 7 months. He was born at Stratton -on -Foss, War- wickshire, England, and was one of the pioneers of the county, having settled on a farm in Wawanoshin the year 1850. For many years he lived there end made a comfortable house, and afterwards re. tired to spend his later days in St. Helens. Simpson returned to its Maker. She had been in failing health for the past year but was only confined to bed far a week, pneumonia being the culminating cause. Her maiden name was Ann Reid and her birthplace was the Emerald Isle, comiug to Canada with her parents when a child. The family settled in Stanley township, Huron Co., where de- ceased was united in marriage to the late William Simpson about 47 years ego. They made their home in Varna before locating at Ethel in 1876 when Mr. Simpson engaged in merohantile life, He died 4 years ago. Two children were born to them Lizzie who passed away at 5 years of age, and Thomas P„ a fine young man well-known here, who paid Nature's debt in 1902, leaving two daughters, Lillian and Netts who were loved and cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Simpsou and who will continue to m ake home here we are pleased to state. They will greatly miss their faithful guardian and will be accorded widespread sym- pathy in the situation. Mrs. Simpson was oonseious till the last and epressed the hope of desiring to be freed from this life and to depart to be with her Saviour ehe so devotedly loved. She was a faithful member of the Methodist church for many year and enjoyed the esteem of a wide circle of friends. Dar. big her illness she was 1 ,tthfuliy waited upon by her neice, Mt Ches. Mr. Simon Vannorman is improving the appearance of his house by veneering it with red brick. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Stalker of Luck - now spent a few days at Mr. Dan Geddes' last week. Mr, Dan Barcley, who has been ill for same time, is, we are pleased to say, able to be out again. Mr. and Mrs. Robt. McKenzie attended the wedding of the former's sister iu Wingham on Wednesday lest. Mr. J. Courtico, who has been engaged with Wm. Stubbs for the past two months left for Toronto on Monday. Mr. Herb Pringle, accompanied by his wife, left for Toronto on Tuesday last where he has secured a lucrative posi- tion. Mr, Wm. Clark, township clerk of Morris, has taken up his residence in Belgrave, having purchased the property lately owned by R. Gallagher, MORRIS. Joseph Clegg arrived home last week from a most enjoyable wintering in the South. He visited Cuba, California and Florida. His many friends welcome him. back. The sad news was received last week of the demise of Mrs. H. Dunn, at Port- age la 'Prairie, Man, Cancer was the cause. Mrs. Dunn was a daughter of the late Samnel Barr, of this township. Last Tuesday, Wm. Keys, 5th line, left on a trip to the West, with Battle - ford as the objective point. He has leas- ed his farm to John Bateman and Geo. Township Clerk Clark and family have taken up their residettce in Bel. grave having sold their farm on the 8th line, Mr. Clark's health has not been of as robust a type of late but we hope the well earned rest will greatly benefit him. By request the Transfer Committee of the Methodist Conferences have made ar- rangements by which Rev, R. Maunders will be stationed in the Assivaboia N. W. T.
