HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 2015-10-07, Page 9Wednesday, October 7, 2015 • Lucknow Sentinel 9 Wing Night fills up to The Crippled Ducks Valerie Gillies Lucknow Legion The Jubilee Hall was opened to accommodate the large crowd for Wing Night at the Lucknow Legion Branch 309 on Saturday, October 3, 2015 with musical entertainment provided by The Crippled Ducks. The Crippled Ducks is made up of brother and sister Harry and Debbie Busby who have been per- forming together for 44 years. Both sing, Harry plays guitar and pro- grams the computer portions while Debbie alternates between playing keyboards and bass guitar. They choose their material based on how popular and danceable the song is. The decisions of which songs make the set list are mutual. The Jubilee Hall was filled as the evening progressed, with many taking the opportunity to dance to the varied selection of musical pieces. added to fill out the band, but for the past 20 years the Busby's have been performing as a duet. The decision to use electronic drums and bass became a necessity to compete with area disc jockeys at a reasonable fee. The Crippled Ducks started out playing in hotels, then progressed to playing weddings and dances as they became better known, at one point playing for 75 weddings per year. They have played most local hotels and dance halls through Midwestern Ontario. Harry is based out of Belmore, while Debbie Busby is based out of Wingham where she is owner/ operator of Sweets N' Treats. Often during performances there will be trivia questions. The first to get the correct answer is generally awarded a gift bag of treats from Debbie's selections of hand -made chocolates and treats. Currently, The Crippled Ducks perform at many Legions, but they still do a lot of everything for venues. They would like to thank the public for their support over the years.
