Remembrance
I
t is with great respect and
gratitude that we remember
those who gave their lives in
the World Wars, Korea and in
supporting those who have
been or are engaged in present
and ongoing battles and peace-
keeping missions.
The military is a proud part of
our Canadian history and her-
itage. Around the world our
military has gained respect for
Canadians that is ongoing.
It is the sacrifice and bravery
of those who gave their lives
that has given us the freedoms
that we have today. They self-
lessly gave to ensure the future
generations would live in
peace, without fear. We are very
fortunate to have this heritage
in Canada.
Each place setting at the
Remembrance Banquet at
Branch 309 had a bookmark
with the famed poem written
by John McCrae which is
printed here in honour of those
who fell. We will remember
them.
In Flanders fields the poppies
blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in
the sky
The larks, still bravely singing
fly
Scarce heard amid the guns
below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sun-
set glow,
Loved, and were loved, and
now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the
foe;
To You from failing hands we
throw
The torch; be yours to hold it
high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though
poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

This past Saturday evening,

annual Remembrance Banquet.
This annual dinner is away for the
community to honour and
acknowledge local veterans of all
conflicts and peace -keeping
events that Canadian forces per-
sonnel have been involved in.
They also aclmowledge widows of
veterans and war brides. It is also
another way for those of us who
are regular members of the com-
munity to pay our respects to all
those who fought and died for our
freedom and peaceful way of life.
